It sounds to simple but it will free your mind and set you free.
Forget rotations, subs, injuries, coaching, Covid, defense, hot shooting and everything else.
The inexplicable can be explained.
We can’t play without our crowd, period end.
You may say it’s the same for everyone but we’re Rutgers, we’re always different.
The crowd gave us the energy to play 40 minutes and the confidence from that allowed us to compete when we traveled.
I’m convinced now...no more searching for answers and being dumbfounded.
No ones fault, we need our RAC crowd.
Best atmosphere in the country.
F’ing Covid ruined our best most experienced team since 1975 and we didn’t even have a guy catch it

I can get behind this to a point, because we did win a couple of games at home this year and almost beat Iowa without the crowd. As for the best atmosphere in the country, AMEN BROTHER!! We have the highest energy, quickest response fan-base there is, ready to go off whenever a situation (or a basket) calls for it. Cannot wait for next year when we're back in our seats and going nuts, on our way to an NCAA tourney. :)

I did some looking and back of the envelope calculations. We were pretty damn good on the road defensively. We put up some elite defensive efficiency numbers in quite a few road games last year.

Really think the “RAC” advantage is more about really making other teams play shaky....than giving us juice to play better .

we played really good D last year on the road ...

not buying the lack of RAC advantage as our issues at all

Carried over to the road via muscle memory from playing that way at home.
We didn’t know any other way

I can’t even begin to explain to you what it feels like to have an entire stadium cheering for you, it’s something you’ll never understand unless you’ve been the recipient of it and experienced it.
If you don’t have the players that’s one thing, this is the same team that went 18-1 at home.
Playing on the road does not make you shaky, playing at home with a scrutinizing crowd is tough.
Going on the road can be a relief.

Paul Mulcahy injected that energy into the team last night and they responded. If the block had been called the charge that it was, we might even have won.

Now, can it carry forward?

Unsure if this explains everything, but no doubt it’s a factor. Our home court advantage was like no other in the country as evidenced by our home and away records.

Im not convinced that if we let the players go out and play and do their own substitutions, plays etc, they wouldn’t do better.

I was very concerned about that before the season started, but when we started hot I thought it was overblown. But I think there is something to this..

Lack of energy especially on defense is a hot topic on this board.
I can assure you, energy is not an issue for our players when the RAC is rocking.
There could be a host of other issues, but energy would not be one of them

So true.
It is sad though that the fire which Mulcahy played with vs. PSU stood out so much among the guys wearing the Rutgers uniforms.

Zappa totally agree. Our defense/rebounding gets the crowd going, steals get the crowd going. A few dunks get the crowd going and it all feeds off each other.

If I was pike, I’d demand everyone on the bench and staff in the building get off their butts and be loud and cheer all game. Quit the frickin moping.

Anyone notice that they did that at Maryland? Even the announcers commented we made it our home court. I suspect the bench was loud and giving energy in all our well played games.

Not the same as a full crowd, but a loud bench can’t hurt.

Speaking of moping, it seems virtually every missed layup ends with a look to the refs. Even the new guy - Cliff - does it. It’s become part of the culture. Pike needs to put an end to it.

Best thread in awhile. Numbers don’t lie. 18-1. The crowd took the team we are now and elevated them. This was my fear before the season started and it has been realized. Hopefully most guys will stay so we can make the tournament next year.
