Hi,

I am a huge college football fan and hope to see Nebraska back as an elite with Frost at the helm.

What is the consensus among the fan base about the uniforms? I believe Nebraska should ditch the gimmick unis and return to their standard red and white with the white helmet and red "N".

In my mind, Frost is changing the culture and bringing back the pride.

Do people feel Nebraska should return to always wearing their classic unis?

I'll take these uniforms if it comes with the players inside.

I dislike the alternate uniforms but i really like doing a throwback alternate uniform once per season. The alternates we've used have been pretty lame for the most part (remember how terrible the 2012 Wisconsin and the 2014 Illinois alternates were?)

I thought the 2012 alternate uniforms against Wisconsin were the best ones we had...

Didn't like the Black jersey 2013 UCLA uniforms or the 2014 duck tape numbers and mallet red helmets.

Expect Frost to mix it up at times because that is what the younger players enjoy, but for the most part he will keep the usual tradition uniforms home and away.

An answer from New Jersey:

Just win! If wearing something snazzy brings in better players, then Just Do It. But I don't see too much happening because it's Adidas.

I don't love alternate uniforms, but if it appeals to players and recruits, that's fine with me. The team belongs to the players, the student body at large, more than it does me. Tradition isn't everything, after all. At one time Nebraska had black and gold uniforms, and went by names like Old Gold Knights, Rattlesnake Boys, and Bugeaters.

Curious, never read that Nebraska ever wore black and gold uniforms. Where did you read this information?

Of course I have numerous books showing Nebraska uniforms threw out their history, but there in black and white.

The recruits should come here because we are traditional. Tradition of winning. Here's to Frost bringing it back!

We have always worn our traditional scarlet and cream uniforms and the solid Red N on the side of our helmet for decades.

Why the inquiry from such an odd place?

I heard this information from a UNL official during a staff meeting about design standards for university publications. While Scarlet and Cream were the official colors, black and gold were considered historic secondary colors that were used in the site design. The below article references the gold color used by early Nebraska teams, the Old Gold Knights.

Appreciate the article, slipped my mind that one of Nebraska's nickname was the Old Gold Knights would make sense that they wore Gold uniforms and waved Gold banners, didn't find anything about wearing black uniforms in the article.

But anyway I have a old book " Go Big Red " published in 1967. Which makes this book 50 years old. Here is a quote.

In 1891 The Old Gold Knights as the boys called themselves, traveled to Crete to play Doane. It was another victory, 18-0. It took some stretch of the imagination to see any gold in the odd, flour sack line uniforms they wore, but in truth, Nebraska had already set stage to become the Scarlet and Cream. The Omaha YMCA wore red stockings, and so enamored of the Y's red stockings were the NU boys they outfitted themselves in red socks against Doane..
The author's are James Denny, Hollis J Limprecht, Howard S. Silber.
