Kenny Payne...I get. But in what world is Vince Marrow a head coach...he's literally never been even considered for a coordinator job much less head man.

Imagine if Peevy/Payne kill it at Louisville and Cal goes to hang it up in 2-5 years. Mitch won't be around much longer either...he'll be pushing 70 when his latest contract ends.

Lol, what do you think would happen then?

What are you saying?

First of all, and I know you’re just throwing it out there, Payne is a really lackluster hire for them. He’s not a big time recruiter. His success is tied directly to guys who were recruited by our system and he gets credit for “grooming them”. He didn’t “groom” much, Tim Duncan doesn’t need Grooming. But WCS does, and he still can’t hit a layup.

There’s been a myth created here because he’s such a nice guy and people like him. They expand on that into areas they shouldn’t.

Louisville has no chance at battling UK for deep runs and success with Payne. And that’s why many of their fans don’t want it. If we listen to the initial thoughts of the fans who are closest to the program hiring the guy, it’s usually dead on. And Louisville fans are not thrilled with it.

Payne to me is a classic #2 guy. Otherwise Arkansas, Ohio State, someone, would have had big interest in him. They see it too. Nice guy, good coach, nothing crazy though, and probably a classic bad *** #2 man.

Do we need to worry about Wagner?

No. Wagner is going to play for UK. Payne has just been built up so much around here people aren’t making sense.

Wagner’s are Cal people. This is business and that business has already paid off for the entire family. You don’t gamble when you have a sure thing in business.

The Payne myth has just grown too big.

It is ok to love Kenny and still hate Louisville. I hope he gets the job and makes his millions and Louisville sucks. In 3 or 4 years he is fired and Louisville still sucks but Kenny got his.

What are you talking about Kenny Payne has been a fine coach. Everywhere he’s been has had success matter of fact we missed him last year.

That said another power program would be hiring a first time head coach. It’s a trend I like seeing as long as we don’t do it.
What’s his record as a head coach?

He could do better than UL IMO. Try Missouri or Georgia . Is the NCAA done with UL ?

He didn’t say Payne wasn’t a good coach. Just that he had the look of a #2 guy. It’s a huge jump to go to the guy in charge of the program. Maybe Payne can handle, maybe he can’t. Will be interesting to see if he gets the job.

A friend of mine told me that he heard on KSR radio today, via DeWayne Peevy:

Kenny Payne and Vince Marrow to Louisville are legit possibilities ...

Seems really out there, but just what he told me.
Lol. Yeah. Marrow will be in Louisville, a lot. Taking any and all talent from it.

These colors don’t run. Plus, they can’t afford him.

I was running with a very unlikely scenario. Payne, Peevy kill it at UL and when Cal/Mitch retire we take them from UL.

Probably not what will happen.

Ah. Yea if that happened well just take’m both if we want it. . But I was so happy when Pitino was gone because man, the link between the programs and “Pitino players on the wall” AKA Kentucky players on Louisville’s wall pissed me off to no end. I don’t consider Louisville much, never did. But that pissed me off and I’m still burned over it.

I would rather we never link our program to Louisville again. No more assistant coaches that played at Louisville, don’t hire their president, nothing. Keep distance. I’m in the vast minority and I realize that, but I never liked Payne to begin with simply because of the link. I’m sick of the programs tying themselves together. And we should definitely not want it.

The link wasn't even a thing until Pitino though, right?

Thats when my time started (around 92 or so) so it just seems like it won’t end. I’d have to ask pops he seems to remember anything about UK that would piss someone off.
Yeah, I think that is about it. I suppose you could say Pitino, Marvin Stone, possibility of Payne.

Marrow is not leaving for an assistant job at another school (unless Stoops leaves.) Also no P5 school is going to offer him their head coaching position. Only way I could see that Marrow leaves is a MAC head coaching offer or Stoops eventually getting an offer and leaving.

''We should turn down an NIT bid" - Louisville fan about 2 months ago. I guess it's a moot point now.
