Haven't thought about this team going to a bowl whatsoever until today, but there's a very realistic chance we could get a bowl invite even if we are only 2-8 or 3-7. Now obviously we need to see what happens with COVID, as it's possible not all of the bowl games even get played. But let's walk through this for a second.
The SEC has nine bowl tie-ins that aren't affiliated with the Playoff or NY6. You can just about take it to the bank that the SEC will have three teams in either the Playoff or NY6, so they won't be involved in the other nine bowls. Vandy is going 0-10 in all likelihood and has the smallest fanbase in the SEC, so probably rule them out for any bowl game as well.
That leaves 10 SEC teams left to fill nine bowl slots. We could not win another game and still be very much in play for Birmingham or St. Petersburg. And of course if we are able to win another game or two then that gives us a chance for a slightly better bowl.
Just found that interesting. I wonder what level of interest our fans would have in watching a 2-8 or 3-7 team play at Legion Field on New Year's Day or in St. Petersburg the day after Christmas.
