This NCAA Tournament is starting to just look like an ACC Tournament + Kansas. aTm is looking subpar in this game---I guess Stansbury STILL can't make it in the NCAA Tournament.

And there were some

folks here, saying it was back, that there would be 5 teams receiving invites to the NCAA Tourney...

Did A&M bring their cheerleaders to the game? I don't see them sitting on the floor in the corner bouncing pom-poms up and down. That would be a sight, huh? ....

About what I expected from the SEC. The league is just awful this year. Everyone saying UK and A&M might make some noise just ignored the fact both managed to lose 5 games in a terrible league.

Billy Kennedy should have known this is par for the course with Stans on the bench.

Weren't you one that has been saying it's getting better?

Not picking on Sir Chuck, but he was adamant that TAMU could not come back from 10 down and that this would not be a high scoring game.

It's unfair to single him out, but I find the complete reversal of that analysis hilarious. Nobody could have seen that epic meltdown coming.

That is an UNI choke job. aTm gets credit for not giving up but if UNI just holds the ball they win---even if aTm gets a Jump Ball called every inbounds, they would still only get HALF of the possessions and time would run out and UNI would have a chance to set their Defense.

There's no longer a 5 second rule in men's college basketball so all the guy had to do was hold the ball in the corner and wait to get fouled. Instead he panicked and tried to bounce the ball off the A&M player, and missed.

I like Barkley, but I don't think he watches too much CBB. Not sure why TNT has him on breaking down the games.

No. I was the one saying this may be the worst season in SEC basketball history and that we probably wouldn't get a team in the Sweet 16.

I bet the UNI coach wishes he could advance the ball to half court on a timeout like the NBA does.

For sure.
...which is why that rule is one of the worst in all of sports. Take a timeout and suddenly move the ball 2/3 down the court!
We should have that in football too- call a timeout after a touchback at the 20 and you find yourself in field goal range coming out of the timeout. Makes as much sense.

But yeah- Jacobson really could have benefited from that rule.

Not much praise for the SEC in that post. In fact, I specifically said it's far behind the top conferences. You've cherry picked out of a lot of posts I've made and found the one that's the most positive about the SEC, and even it's not a very positive post.

But there are plenty of others I wish college had. Real jump balls and quarters instead of halfs. Mens college basketball is I think the only sport now that does halfs.

The 5 second rule still applies when holding the ball. The rule change removed the rule only while dribbling.

Either way, there was a lot of panic. I saw their coach saying what I was saying - THROW IT TO THE OTHER END OF THE COURT. At least then, they have to use more time to bring the ball up if you turn it over.

Yeah, quarters could be good. I went to a Drake Women's basketball game this year and experienced quarters...good stuff. Less chance of getting into the bonus which slows the game down. More planning for getting 2for1 at the end of each quarter which ups overall posessions and speeds up the game. Timeouts are reduced from 8 to 6 which forces players in game to do more and speeds up the game.

All good stuff.

Thanks for the clarification. I knew that I saw the ref counting a couple times but I couldn't figure out why.

Throwing it long was a no-brainer on any of those times. Why the coach didn't pull him aside after the first time and tell him to run the baseline and throw it long if nothing is there is beyond me.
