yeah, Christie never did one thing to benefit me either, but I don't get paid to get us long suffering Rutgers fans into a political debate either. And I'm not debating Schiano's value to me as a Rutgers fan.

Listen to 20 seconds of the video Richie posted from 2:33 to 2:50, right after Christie mocked the private jet travel (which really doesn't bother anyone but Rutgers haters).

"And he said, he wanted a new football building guaranteed to be built by 2023, and if it wasn't built by 2023, that his buyout to leave the contract would go to zero. So he could leave to go somewhere else without any penalty."

If they took that line out, what exactly would be wrong with that contract? And honestly, if a 17 year old is trying to decide between colleges and he chooses FlyoverState because they have a players lounge in a different building than the fieldhouse, do we REALLY want him on our Patriots AA league team? I just want to be proud of my team.

Christie isn't square on the actual details of the deal that Rutgers failed to respond to, but you can set that aside when - to my own astonishment - I agree with what he's saying, particularly about a coach putting his feet up on his desk after the state guarantees his salary and his capital expansion projects.

He could care less about this state or people in it. That time NJ had the shutdown and they closed the state parks and beaches over July 4th and meanwhile he was sitting on his beach chair the family enjoy getting his tan on on island state beach property while every else fumed.
I think I can speak for everyone on this site. Thank you for NOT posting pictures.

Christi has obviously never met, or knows anyone who has met, Greg Schiano. Because if he did, he'd know that's not how Schiano works and it's an insult to imply he would. Schiano putting his feet up on his desk? Can you even imagine it? Really? Sorry, bad argument considering who the man is and his track record of tireless dedication to the program when in charge. That PITA will be riding Hobbs like Seabiscuit on the fundraising effort and doing everything in his powers to get it done. To believe otherwise is misguided thinking.

Coaching football and being a mentor to young men? You're absolutely correct.

Operating in the best financial interests of the State University of New Jersey? I'll be honest, I don't see it -- but, admittedly, I don't know. I'm no fan of Chrisco, but Gary has a track record of spending money that we don't have, and then sticking New Jersey with the bill.

The demand of a facility built by 2023 sounds pretty unreasonable on its face, but I understand Schiano wanting firm commitments on anything he gains in the negotiations, as the Tennessee debacle showed the worthlessness of a verbal promise from people who represent a university at one moment in time. He probably especially felt exposed because he knows there will be a new president by then and I believe stories had already circulated about Hobbs being here only a few more years.

That being said, I think there has to be a lawyerly way to write in some protections for both sides on the facility issue without the only options being the stark "facility built by 2023 or walk away for free".

Glad to see everyone taking a minute to read what was said instead of oh no F that ahole.
I listened to what he said.

I'm ambivalent about Schiano returning. He's a known quantity that will be much better than Ash, but I think he has a low ceiling.

But Christie's comment is just idiotic. Having a timeline for the building doesn't mean that Schiano doesn't have to support fundraising. And if Rutgers is really concerned that it does mean that, then they should put a clause in the contract that says one of Schiano's duties is to support fundraising.

I was definitely not in the "Schiano or bust" camp to start, either.

However, the way Hobbs has handled this has taken me from "Schiano should be on the list of candidates that are part of a thorough search, but I think there are better options than him" to today's "we have to make this Schiano thing work, because Rutgers has bungled this to the point where our options suck".

I'm concerned about why Schiano came back with new 11th hour demands to derail a deal that was close to done, as was reported yesterday. So I am not concluding that it was Rutgers that bungled this.

Christie explaining to this fanbase Rutgers' Athletics is nonsense to me; he knows nothing about it.

What's next, he tells me how the salad bar works??
He just has no point of reference.

I think Hobbs (and thereby the Rutgers side of the table) may have bungled toward the end by apparently not presenting those final wish list items to the BOG, if true as reported.

Hard to know either way.

Maybe he added new demands after they pulled or modified parts of the deal at the last minute, parts that he thought they had already agreed to.

I can only go by what is reported, and it seems certain media sources are connected to each side in this matter, but the Politi story said the “new demands” in some areas were in combination with giving up on some previous demands made in other areas that were still in contention. If so, that is basic negotiating, not an attempt to derail a deal.

I filmed that video of Christie speaking. I am hoping this video is the video that saved Rutgers football.
Tony, don’t know who was in the audience, but I wish someone had the nerve to call out and say he was wrong. And believe me, I am no fan of heckling, but you just can’t run around and say George Washington was from Saturn.

PH worked for CC, as an ombudsman, a resource for whistle blowers within CC's admin. Hobbs also oversaw ethics training/guidance to some 140 staff.

This is ironic, as all may come to understand, should certain details of PH's behavior emerge.
Who in the world does Rutgers hire to do background checks? Dollar Tree ?

And a "flat earther" too??
Whitebus, a few years ago, something happened in my life that I no longer spend any time following politics or current events. That being said, since last Sunday, everything seems to be bugging me about this fiasco. Christie was just another straw. I should probably cut back on the Pepsi. lol Still hoping we are able to turn the Schiano hire around or I think we are looking at post SMU death penalty level football for a very long time. At this point, I am not counting on anything until the press conference.
