KF says it's nice that Iowa completed ONE 20-yard pass and that it would be nice if Iowa could complete a couple of those every game.
Hill completed 10 of 15 passes vs. NW. A few even crossed the line of scrimmage in the air. That's a clever way to pump up that 38% completion rating.
Hill fumbled again, but Iowa recovered, so we're not gonna even mention that, although some might point out that Hill also threw another INT. Some people just can't help but be negative.
Iowa stopped NW on first and goal from the 2. Of course, some might say NW stopped itself by insisting on running up the middle when, a few moments earlier, it had outflanked Iowa around midfield to gain a first down by faking inside and running outside. NW had at least two chances to do that from inside the 1, but they didn't. More Iowa magic.
Then there was the mighty 25-yard TD drive masterminded by QB #1 Deacon Hill after Iowa's special teams blocked a NW punt. That was one for the ages, one that brought back memories of Chuck Long and Brad Banks and CJ Beathard . . . or not.
Some Hawkeye fans, me included--I admit it--have been calling for Cooper DeJean to play some offense and, dang nabit, wouldn't ya know the Ferentz brain trust finally let their best athlete on the field when Iowa had the ball at Wrigley--TWICE! DeJean gained 8 yards on a sweep, and on the next play he took half the NW defense with him as he carried out a fake. And that was that. What fans have been suggesting all season only took Kirk and Brian 9 games and a bye to figure out. Lesser men never would have made such a bold move.
And so a good time was had by all.
