Lyons and Huggins need to be raising twelve kinds of Hell about this one. What is this, the third this season? There are three more coming up. You've got the team getting back to Morgantown at 4am EST if you're very lucky. Lyons and Huggins have to get on the league on this one.
The league is not the problem. It is all about TV, who pays our bills and is allowing WVU to remain competitive.
There is a 7 PM EST tv slot and a 9 PM EST tv slot. When playing in the Central Time Zone, 7 PM EST is actually 6 PM CST and you're not going to see 6 PM starting times.
The league has been great with us in scheduling since the first year when we learned of some of the issues. We get to play on the road in January before school starts and that eliminates one of the 9 away games. Also, they do try to give us Saturday afternoon slots when available. And, they have tried to schedule some games together to minimize the longer trips. Lubbock is a very long trip for us.
But the TV networks WANT West Virginia playing in prime time because we are one of the top teams in the country. So let's celebrate something that is working quite nicely.
Also remember that we are flying on charter aircraft, which means less airport security headaches than normal travel. And the plane is fit-out to accommodate passengers with long legs. Air travel is a lot easier these days with the internet, music and other forms of in-flight entertainment.
It's not ideal, but it is probably better than coming back from Penn State, Maryland or VPI on a motorcoach bus. And remember if you played in the PAC 12, you'd have some air trips that are even longer and much worse.
