It’s a coach who wants to allow kids to see family during thanksgiving. Pike’s done it ever since he arrived.
Really? I've been to my share of Black Friday weekend games at the RAC. Rutgers/North Texas was Pike era I'm pretty sure. Maybe not now that I think of it. The last BU game is another one I remember. That was fairly recently.

That’s after thanksgiving 😀. This year the break is a bit longer than usual.

I get the rest but hate loosing momentum after we seem to be finding our groove.
It is a very long season, still like striking when iron is hot.

I think any basketball coach might have concerns after a nine day break no?
Pike seems to schedule different time starts, different days off. Gotta be able to handle everything. It’ll be good for Mag and Williams.

Definitely odd.

Looking at Pike's tenure at RU:
2023-24 - 9 days
2022-23 - 4 days
2021-22 - 5 days
2020-21 - 2 days (game on Wed and Fri of Thanksgiving week.... but then a separate 9-day break in early Dec)
2019-20 - 6 days
2018-19 - 4 days
2017-18 - 3 days
2016-17 - 2 days (game on Wed and Fri of Thanksgiving week)

This is a welcome break after 4 games in 9 days, especially with two rotation players — Williams and Mag — sidelined by injury and working their way back to health.

This is a good time for the team to reset, watch film, make corrections, and get healthy.

My sentiments exactly. This gives Mag and Williams more time to heal, plus it's not like Pike won't have them practicing.

The season is a week longer than usual this year with how the calendar fell, so most teams will have a longer than usual layoff. Duke for example plays December 12 and then again on December 20. Penn State plays an MTE on November 23-25 and then again on December 2. Just two random ones that popped into my head, but you'll see it with nearly everyone I bet.

Pike even said it in his post game press conference. The team has played a lot of games in a short amount of time and they're banged up. They can really use this break

Did we ever get more info on what Williams injury is?
No, but he had his knee wrapped with a leg sleeve when they showed him sitting on the bench during the game. I’m guessing it’s the same knee he injured last year, but have no idea if that’s correct.

And the P Funk All Stars? I remember when they played RutgersFest
Grew up in South Plainfield and remember when Clinton & co. were Parliament. They did a show at Plainfield HS in the fall of '67. Several years ago, I was at a cookout in the Woodbridge area. Was talking guitars with a younger fellow and told him I was really amazed by a video of an Eddie Hazel solo. He just said that I should talk to his wife. When she came over, she said her father was an owner of the barbershop where Clinton hung out. Said Hazel and others would practice at her house and make a racket!

Illinois last played on Friday. They don't play again until our game this coming Saturday.

It helps that St. Peter's has been off for a week themselves so they will also be shaking off the rust. It would be much tougher to play a team who has played more recently after a 9-day layoff.

Not only nine days off but now another five off. Two games in 14 days, going to get rusty no?

Illinois has 8 off so hopefully they’ll be rusty too. All these coaches are idiots in their scheduling.
