Vandy played a weak *** schedule (much like Nebraska) and both went undefeated in OOC play. Huskers still holding up for now, but Vandy has hit it hard in conference play. Give this team Vandy's schedule this year, we could very well be sitting on only a couple losses (if that) and ranked in the top ten, even with all the injuries.
I'm not saying scheduling is the issue or that we should water it down, just schedule *smarter* - amongst the myriad of changes that needs to happen this offseason.
The real problems at Kentucky?
#1 - The A.D. (Nuff' said)
#2 - Pope is struggling to recruit, that is permanently unacceptable here. We cannot keep him if this continues into next year.
#3 - JMI deal ( I have no doubts this is seriously affecting recruiting )
#4 - Injury situations, especially heading into the season to begin. Again, unacceptable to be accepting injured players in the portal in lieu of getting better players thru recruiting (or the portal) , hoping they can be ready halfway thru a season. That should NEVER happen here. It can't. It's not sustainable, and it's not sustainable for Pope to continue in any way shape or form.
There are other things as well, but if we solve those and get back onto a level ground recruiting, we will be alright.
Right now, if we lose the next two consecutive games, the season will remain on the brink, the program and coach are on the brink, and the A.D. is where the buck stops. win the next two, we still have our backs to the wall. Win one, and the pressure is still there, it's still not looking good.
It's going to take this team an incredible run of wins and a legendary streak to turn anything "around" - I hope they realize they need to give everything they have got and find any way it takes to win. Anything less, and the program is in serious decline and falling quickly into obscurity in this era.
