$85K to Grant

Won't happen but we should pocket the $85k and play the game at NJIT. Split the gate with Grant. Filling up the 3,500 seat NJIT Wellness and Event Center is better than the same amount at the Rock or 1,000 at Walsh.
Yeah I just don’t understand scheduling these games anymore. We beat them by 50 and it makes no difference and is possibly a metric detriment. We lose and the season is already on the ropes. And we’re going to shell out almost $100k to do it?
I don’t see the benefit.
Every team needs games like this to fill out their 31 game schedule. It’s a cost of doing business.
I know this is about Grant, but that is a crazy amount to pay a team from down the street who will bring 57 fans. Does a team who has to travel also get a travel stipend from host schools? I know we need games, but cant something be done about the amount paid? Why cant the amount be negotiated, cant leagues, high d1s decide 70k or some other # is plenty?
80 major universities (thinking the p4s, BE and other higher level hoops schools) saying 85k is too much and something needs to be done about it might change the market. Who has more to lose, SHU or njit? Do monmouth and rider pay 85k for each ooc hone game?
They do the opposite- they play mostly on the road the first month to collect checks.
But if not NJIT, then who? And if what HallGuy posts above is correct, if we lose money on playing them at the Rock, why not play them at their place? It wouldn't cost us more than the bus; and in fact, would they have to pay us something?

Yeah but most teams make far more than 85k by filling their arena. We'll play this at 1,000 seat Walsh and lose money overall. Every OOC game has to be looked at from a revenue POV.
Penn State has been innovative with their scheduling to save money/increase revenue.
- They played at New Haven's 867-seat gym in exchange for 3 Home Games with No buy fees.
- They played LaSalle at Neutral site in Philadelphia as part of a double-header with Syracuse playing Drexel. Rather than pay LaSalle a large buy fee to play at home, they get paid by the promoter and get a Neutral Site game to help metrics
- They played Pitt at a neutral site in Hershey. Got a big crowd with 2 big local schools and split revenue in half.
- They played Providence at Mohegan Sun. Instead of playing at Providence, they get guaranteed revenue from the organizers
Playing this game at Walsh loses money. Playing this game at the Rock makes money.
If they did play a few home games in the ooc, do they pay? Does anyone know if they pay?
Some version of this sould be implemented:
- They played at New Haven's 867-seat gym in exchange for 3 Home Games with No buy fees.
Monmouth plays home and homes with the likes of Princeton, Penn, Lehigh/Lafayette in addition to road guarantee games and usually a second-tier MTE.
How much would Iona. Yale, Hofstra want to play at the Rock? James Jones (Yale) constantly laments that UCONN and others won't play Yale. Felt very fortunate last season to play at Alabama: not for the money; just for a competitive game.
