The 2nd round of playoff games will be here in just a few days and here's a few notes and predictions
WEST
#1 West Holt vs. #9 Perkins Co. I think this game is one of the most interesting ones in the round of 16. Perkins County is no slouch and West Holt has proven to be one of the best in D1. West Holt 46 Perkins County 30

#4 Med. Valley vs. #5 Hemingford. Don't know much about either team, but Medicine Valley just handled a decent Cambridge team twice in 3 games while Hemingford barely slipped by Overton in round 1. Medicine Valley 50 Hemingford 46

#3 South Loup vs. #11 Elm Creek. Always tough to beat a team twice in a season. Elm Creek coming off an upset over Burwell but South Loup is just getting healthy. South Loup 35 Elm Creek 24

#2 Kenesaw vs. #7 CWCE. Both coming off easy first round games. Libolt is legit. Kenesaw is legit. CWCE keeps it close but Kenesaw is too much. Kenesaw 56 CWCE 44

EAST
#1 Creighton vs. #9 Plainview. Sounds like the injury bug has hit Creighton like a freight train. Plainview got a nice win over Diller-Odell in round one. Regardless of injuries, Creighton kids can play about any position on the field. Creighton 68 Plainview 18

#5 East Butler vs. #4 Nebraska Lutheran. East Butler won this match-up 50-28 in week 6, but Nebraska Lutheran has been playing some good ball lately. I think East Butler is the dark horse of the East bracket. East Butler 54 Nebraska Lutheran 38

#11 Johnson-Brock vs. #14 Pender. Both coming off upsets in round 1. Pender seems to be playing their best football at the right time, while Johnson-Brock was sort of a sleeper team in D1 this year. Johnson-Brock 44 Pender 22

#2 Howells-Dodge vs. #7 Lourdes CC. A rematch of last year's round of 16 game that Lourdes came back from a 22 point deficit to win. Lourdes has won out the second half of their season while HD went 8-0 with a below average schedule. Call it an upset. Lourdes 28 Howells-Dodge 24

These are just for fun, nothing personal! Let me know if you agree/disagree with any picks...good luck to all teams!!

Saw that East Butler and Nebraska Lutheran are playing in Shelby. Any insight as to why?

That will be interesting because Shelby-RC has field turf, which means they will have to recreate a field within the field with new hash marks, new out of bounds lines, etc.

Wouldn't it just be easier at that point to have the game held at East Butler? With it moving to a neutral location, no one really is the "home" team. So either way, Nebraska Lutheran is playing an "away" game

A certain type of tape is used for boundary lines. If the game would move to East Butler that would basically mean Nebraska Lutheran is handing the home field advantage to East Butler. From NL's perspective, better that both teams play "away" than for them to forfeit their home field advantage and hand it to East Butler

it's not that difficult to change a field from 11 to 8 man and if they have field turf who wouldn't want to play on that surface.
