Any way Highland can stop the steamroller of JCA? Played Marion 49-14 earlier this year; JCA 49-7 today over Marion. Shootout? Tough one to win on the road without a real test this season.

Can Cahokia ride a hot streak and knock off Hillcrest?

I don’t know about a shootout but it should be a good game. Marion was over matched the score could of been a lot worse. JCA had three tomorrow touchdowns called back on the same drive.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply to the question that wasn’t asked.

5A isn’t strong. We get it. That doesn’t mean it isn’t worth playing for or watching, especially with hometown teams playing.

If you have nothing to add....

I expect both JCA & Hillcrest to advance.

Having now seen both teams, Highland can definitely play with JCA. JCA is extremely opportunistic they turned 2 turnovers into almost immediate touchdowns. Couple that with 2 blown coverage assignments that result in passing TDs and it was lights out for us. We were overwhelmed on the defensive side. They do get to the second level with their running backs almost at will. That being said, Highland has the best secondary I have seen in many years for a high school team. They should be able to make the tackles to limit the long runs and shut down the play action with their coverage. I think LaPorta May be a better safety than wide receiver and that might end up being his position in college. JCA is very predictable on defense. #15 is the hot read that blitzes all the time but is poor in coverage. The slant, cross, quick outs should be there all night if the QB can read it. Unfortunately, ours couldn’t and it was a long night. As long as the wind isn’t blowing 20+ mph, I think Highland wins. Good luck to Highland and hopefully they can shut up their obnoxious PA announcer.

I admittedly don’t know anything about Hillcrest but Cahokia plays excellent defense that should keep them in any ballgame. Only loss is to an undefeated Cardinal Ritter team by 8 that is top 20 in Missouri with 4 D1 prospects in the top 50 for Missouri. Cahokia hasn’t given up more than 14 points since week 2 (22 to Collinsville and 20 to Ritter).

It should be a tight game.
From this side of the fence it appears that the Hilltopper Defense will need to step up and their offense will need to control the clock and keep your Bulldog Offense off of the field as they look to be quite potent.

It’s certainly shaping up to be a great game from what I’ve seen, but I haven’t seen games or tape on JCA except for this week. Highland’s defense has a tendency to give up big chunks at times, so they will need to limit this against the very opportunistic JCA offense. Highland’s QB will also need to limit mistakes. He’s a first year WR-turned-QB, but very smart and has really limited mistakes compared with early in the year. Wish I could be there for this one.

As for HC-Cahokia, I think Hillcrest should win this, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Cahokia won. They have played tough, and as mentioned, their only loss was to a very talented STL area team. The 33-0 win yesterday was a serious statement on both sides.

JCA had their best defensive back out with an injury. Those quick passes are always there with every team if the talent allows. The JCA announcer sucks like a Hoover upright. He's just a fricken embarrassment. I expect some offense from both teams and a very tight game. I watched that LaPorta kid on film and he's the real deal.

In his defense, he's a good English teacher.
