Houston used their 5 star defensive tackle and he had a hell of a game. I dont even think our 5 star player, Caleb Kelley even played. When Obo committed those penalties that would have been a good time to take him out and put Kelley in. If 5 star guys dont get on the field as freshman its hard to get other 5 star guys to play for you.

but was Kelly even listed as 2nd string? I could be wrong, but I feel like he was 3rd string on the depth chart posted here.

We have tons of talent at the LB position, not sure why these guys didnt see the field

But even stopping to consider the bush, it's an interesting point that I'm surprised isn't generating more discussion.
I think coe has a very good observation as to why it might be difficult to lure 5-star talent around Norman. This idea that "the best will play" might carry a little stigma in recruiting.

I read a really interesting article about John Calipari last year explaining how he repeatedly gets the best recruits in the nation by promising them playing time and encouraging them to go pro ASAP. Different sports, but similar, young minds.
