Worth it. And hats off to Cohen for not being cheap. If you want proven coaches, you have to be willing to fork out the dough.

This is making me increasingly confident that it was Cohen’s decision to not offer Napier. Not the other way around

There is no freaking way that that guy turned down $4-5M/yr to stay in Lafayette, LA and dream about other possibilities. Just no way

Slap a $10mil buy out on top
Buyout? He's 58 years old. Where's he going to go? This is probably his last stop. Yeah, I know Saban almost went to Texas at 65 or whatever, but at the end of the day he didn't, because he didn't want to rebuild yet again.

Agreed. I think Joe Judge was #1, thus the "he will be passionate about MSU" talk, and the fact that he was nearly wrapped up in 3-4 days. Seeing how that worked out, Leach was a nice consolation prize I'd say.

Billy Napier isn't worth 4-5 million (yet).

I seriously doubt we offered Napier the same deal. Much less proven coach. great potential, but he hasn't done anything. Unlike Leach, who on his last 2 stops has made irrelavant teams relavant

Im with you but more concerned. This very likely wont work beyond Mullen era expectations unless we come off some $ for good assistants.

if he was here 8 years that'd be great and likely means he's winning.

Having said that, he comes across much younger than most 58 year old coaches. He's got a ton left in the tank.

He's definitely not "low energy Jeb."

He's been at his last two stops for 10 years and 8 years. I'm not concerned about him jumping ship. (Though he has been rumored to be wanting to leave WSU for a few years)

Have contract terms been officially disclosed?
Interested in what the assistant pool is?

Adam Rittenberg just tweeted "$5 mil annually and includes a substantial commitment to the salary pool for assistants and support staff"

The thing is, Leach is kind of a niche candidate. An Alabama or LSU type is never hiring him. And anyone else is not going to be able to outbid us. Its a perfect fit in that sense. If he wins 7-9 per year after he gets his feet under him, he’ll coach here forever. None of that November BS we dealt with during Mullen will happen.

Might be LSU and Bama's loss then. We've seen what they have done with innovative offenses past few years.

Leach would absolutely light it up with Bama/LSU/UGA type talent.

You're so negative, brotha.

I agree. People are acting like LSU and Alabama are running some crazy high flying air raid, and they're not. They are just throwing the ball around because they have great quarterbacks paired with great receivers. Any competent coach can figure out how to play with that personnel. They are simply using pro style concepts. The receivers get open and the quarterback hits them. And the quarterbacks can run a little bit. It's that simple.

It certainly sounds that way. It's hard to imagine someone turning down a 4- or 5-fold increase in income. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Napier over the next couple of years.

Oh, I agree, but I guess my point is that now that we know Cohen was willing to pay up to $5M, that’s a lot of wiggle room to get Napier here if he had truly been his guy. I’m other words, I don’t think Cohen offered him $3.5, Napier said I want $4, and Cohen balked.

For whatever reason, I just don’t think Napier was ever Cohen’s guy

My only real concern would be if The U opened up. Leach already has a place in Key West.

Leach was listed as WSU's OC. If they need someone to stand next to him and nod yes, I'll do it for a nominal fee.
