I’m hoping we repeat 23’ and win out and Braun stays. But if change happens I’d much prefer Christ. Former wis coach b4 fickle. Jesus Christ would be great too imhoFleck would energize the program. There’s no doubt about that…

Who exactly do you prefer that we can get?? Just curious whom you had in mindChryst is exactly the type of coach I don’t want. Zero energy! Dull, boring and lacks charisma. We need someone who can RECRUIT, both players and NIL contributors. I’d rather read two hours of +/- hoops analysis than listen to Chryst.

Same agent.Didn’t Fleck way back got with Fitz for coaching advice? Perhaps there’s an interest there… I’m intrigued.![]()
Chryst was slowly tanking the Wisconsin program due to lack of interest. To be fair, their underresourcing problems there went beyond just Chryst, their entire institution lost the plotChryst is exactly the type of coach I don’t want. Zero energy! Regardless of whether this team stumbles into a win in the second half of this game to earn a sixth with and a trip to Detroit for a ****** bowl game, I think Jackson likely has seen enough to know Coach Braun can’t be the answer long term. Between having a team that seems to constantly screw up situations that winning teams wouldn’t blow, to his terrible recruiting… I think he’s seen enough.
Only an idiot could watch the last two seasons, look at recruiting, and think that’s a good idea. And I don’t think our AD is an idiot.Braun will be back next year.
As well he should. It's fun watching football again. We are in virtually every game and we have plenty of good players due to return next year just look at our roster and who has eligibility left. We will add pieces in the portal so next year we'll have a chance to be special. QB remains a question but we will have interest. The play calling and playmaking today was tremendous. That 2 pt conversion was stellar (and crucial).Braun will be back next year.
One would dearly hope. We can transition to a “will the school give Braun what it takes to succeee” thread and then a “will Braun pull it out in the portal” and “will Braun get hotter in 2026 recruiting” threads, and then finally “what do we need to see in 2026 to be happy” thread. But the convo for 2025 should be solidly over.Okay, we can put this thread to bed now, right?
I’m glad we won today. But I hope not. New stadium. B1G money. We could be so much more.Braun will be back next year.
Let’s test that by giving him adequate resources and seeing what he can do, it’s time to juice the NILI’m glad we won today. But I hope not. New stadium. B1G money. We could be so much more.
What resources doesn’t he have? Truly asking?Let’s test that by giving him adequate resources and seeing what he can do, it’s time to juice the NIL
Who do you think is coming here to be the head coach? If I hear another asinine Urban Meyer reference, I am going to blow. Some of you guys have no clue how hard it is to win at NU.I’m glad we won today. But I hope not. New stadium. B1G money. We could be so much more.

Better than he had but still not great ones. Way below average in the Big Ten. We need a lot more. What resources doesn’t he have? Truly asking?
There are like literally two people, and maybe just one, whose opinion actually matters, so predicting what WILL happen vs saying, among reasonable possibilities, which we’d personally support is different. I’m not Pat Ryan’s psychic so what do I know. Some of the commentary on this hasn't made sense.
At no point has Braun's seat been close to even lukewarm since he got here. There is no way that NU is going to fire a coach that's gotten us to 2 bowls in 3 seasons while navigating the fallout from the Fitz firing debacle.
He's done a great job to this point. Anybody that thinks otherwise doesn't have a finger on the pulse of the admin or major donors. None of these people wants to deal with a coaching change if they don't have to (and they certainly don't have to if the team is winning a half of its games).
NIL is pretty much the main resource now. What resources doesn’t he have? Truly asking?
Right, but the biggest donors lived through the Dark Ages; they're not going to take risks if they don't have to; as long as Braun can deliver as he has, he'll be the HC here. There are like literally two people, and maybe just one, whose opinion actually matters, so predicting what WILL happen vs saying, among reasonable possibilities, which we’d personally support is different. I thought you weren’t in the mood. Some message boards have a years long history/archive and you can see what was written. I dont have the time to do it for a whole shebang of teams..but okay three lay-ups via google search. that won't take too much time....
All these "experts" thought they finally would turn the corner because THIS guy was going to be "the one".
LSU fans ecstatic that they got rid of nutsy Coach O and hired stable and fiery coach Kelly
Brian Kelly is a phenomenal hire - not sexy but he’s a winner.

And Deion Sanders at Colorado? Fickell (the big winner at Cincinnati) at Wisconsin? How about the past five coaches at Miami, the past five at Florida (post Urban) and those at Texas post Mack Bown? Or Auburn post Tuberville? These are not exactly small school programs located in places that don't care about football to put it mildly. All fired except for Fickell for now.
Fans always think Nick Saban or Urban Meyer is hiding behind every door that only they know how to open. Instead PJ Fleck is behind the door pulling on some stupid rope or can't miss Jinbo Fisher counting his 76 million dollar bills from TexasAM.
Do I want to have a coach that just keeps us where we are? No, I want better. Expect Victory. Braun says the same and means it.
But I also note that of our losses this year every single one has been to a current Top 20 team (Michigan. USC, Oregon) or a team being talked about as a serious playoff contender (Tulane), Or only "bad loss" was to Nebraska. And we really could have won that one and Michigan too frankly! Popular with everyone, young and relatable, fiery without being an ******* and with a talent for coaching smart kids where you need a different mindset. And recruiting with no stadium yet and from what I understand a NIL budget that is still a bit on the short side. And of course the academics. Why we don't simply say, that if kid it good enough to get into Vanderbilt, Duke, Rice or Note Dame or Georgia Tech or the Service Academies then that kid is good enough for our admissions I will never understand.
And now two bowl seasons in three years of coaching. Fire him? I say consider extending him.
Do you mean $20M NIL plus the $15M we already commit from revenue share to football?NIL is pretty much the main resource now.
Facility wars was 2010-2022 and we managed to get up to speed there (though now that's gone from being a half the battle to like 2% of the battle).
But at some point we're going to need $20+ million per year in NIL because that's the way the sport is headed. (And it's hard to tell how much NIL we or anybody else actually has, but I doubt we're in the upper half of the Big Ten in NIL).
Right, but the biggest donors lived through the Dark Ages; they're not going to take risks if they don't have to; as long as Braun can deliver as he has, he'll be the HC here.
Now maybe expectations change if we ramp up the NIL budget to being in the top half of the Big Ten. But given what we likely have, it's hard to justify making any kind of coaching change.
There are maybe 5-7 places where it's "easier" to win in the Big Ten and then 9-11 where it's not, and we're among the toughest of those 9-11 remaining places to win at..., the admin/donors know that.
Yes, the top schools are committing at least $20-25 million on top of their revenue share every year.Do you mean $20M NIL plus the $15M we already commit from revenue share to football?
I dearly want braun to succeed. He is a great guy. But let's retire that tired.Cliche about being hard to win here. indiana vanderbilt tulane. Now the wild card will always be quarterback. If they give braun, what he needs to get a good one every year, he will we have a much better chance to succeed. I love running the football, but you have to have a top fifty quarterback.Who do you think is coming here to be the head coach? If I hear another asinine Urban Meyer reference, I am going to blow. There's the other big factor lost in this; our schedules have gotten considerably tougher than they've been perhaps ever due to the recent addition of the 4 West Coast schools and removal of divisions as well as only keeping a few annual rivalries.Back in September, a few people were touting Syracuse coach Fran Brown as a possible replacement for Braun. I know his quarterback got injured, but he doesn't play defense, does he? and they are trailing Notre Dame 49-0 at halftime. This is a very tough coaching gig, especially with the new, expanded Big Ten.
I don't think any of those guys is an obviously better coach than Braun...Fleck
Sumrall
Klieman
Leipold
Kotelnicki
Campbell
Stein
Of that list the only two guys that I think are no brainer hires over Braun are Campbell and Leopold. Problem is that it would be a very long shot to get either of those guys to NU.Fleck

Let’s not. Tulane, Indiana and Vanderbilt are not NU’s academic peers when it comes to student athletes.I dearly want braun to succeed. He is a great guy. Separately I think jackson really likes braun. A lot. So I don't see him going anywhere
That leaves us and Stanford against the world then?Let’s not. Tulane, Indiana and Vanderbilt are not NU’s academic peers when it comes to student athletes.
Every program would love to find a Coach Cignetti and completely transform themselves overnight into a monster (while bringing on board a ton of players from his prior stop to completely rebuild). That leaves us and Stanford against the world then?
Doesn't seem to have hurt Duke. They were this little known regional school until Coach K, and now they are a global brand university with tons and tons of resources
