I don’t know how anyone watches this season and reaches that conclusion. This is the least talent I’ve seen on the roster since Tubby Smith - at least Billy G. had Jodie Meeks.

This team has nothing. No star like De’Aaron Fox, no four-star surprise like SGA or Herro, no returning developmental success like Washington or Quickley. We have nothing. Every team we play has two or three players better than our best player. There isn’t a single player on our roster whose impact doesn’t have to be qualified six ways from Sunday. The 2013 NIT squad was loaded compared to this one.

Blame Cal for the talent evaluation and recruiting. Blame him for failing to hold onto guys like Hagans and Montgomery, who had no business leaving. That’s all fair. But this season is no indictment on Cal’s coaching because he has nothing to coach!
And yet he recruited those players. Imagine that.

Read the last paragraph in what you quoted.

Simply put, You’re not comprehending his point. Or choosing to be contrary? I’m not sure which. You’re contradicting yourself in both your original comment and your reply to the above.

Cal gets a pass for this seasons awfulness because... the players he recruited along with his model put him in a position to not be able to coach? Does that mean... what? We shouldn’t expect to win any game at all because the players are that bad? That makes very little sense and is just more evading. This season is 100% an inducement of his (lack) of coaching.

If John Calipari were a better bench coach and had more X’s And O’s talent we wouldn’t be 5-13.

or if he just prioritized winning immediately over developing players for the next level

Where did I say “Cal gets a pass?”

It’s pretty tiring having to ask the same people to actually read what they’re responding to every...single...time.

so what are your expectations for Cal next year?

He will continue getting the OAD type recruits, coaching them up and being a contender?

or does he have to do something different?

This was your quote “But this season is no indictment on Cals coaching because he has nothing to coach” You can split hairs and dissect words all you like but that’s what you said.

This season is absolutely an indictment of Cals coaching. He can’t be what... expected to coach well because the players he recruited can’t be coached? He can’t be expected to coach the team he put together because the team he put together can’t be coached?

This is silly.

You’re spinning in circles man- what exactly are you even trying to say at this point lol?

My point above still stands. You’re contradicting yourself.

It’s not a contradiction. It was very clear: terrible players playing terribly isn’t an indictment of a coach’s coaching ability.

Give the best coach in basketball history the NBA’s worst players and they will still lose to a roster of NBA all-stars playing entirely without a coach.

You can still blame a coach with bad players for talent evaluation and roster development (and I do), but not for coaching; not when the talent level is so low that no quality of coaching can fix the final product in a span of weeks.

If this notion is still beyond your comprehension, there’s nothing more I can do to help you.

Not to you Frank, but the post you quoted has to be the most CYA posts out there.
Nothing to coach? Even if H.S. basketball was historically down last year (don't know if it was or not) it was still the #1 ranked recruiting class. Throw in probably the top transfer who had a very good season at Wake, and another transfer (Mintz) and you have two good transfers WITH experience.

This team could have be 10-8 right now with a little luck down the stretch.

They needed a few of the guys who left early to have came back considering only 3 of them got drafted it is a shame only Brooks wanted to come back.

5-13. That has to be a misprint. No Kentucky team would ever sink as low as 5 wins and 13 losses. It is impossible.
Not a misprint unfortunately. Was talking with my dad today, and we talked UK basketball for the first time in a long time. He is 88. His parents were fans, so you know how long he has been a fan. He so desperately wants to see another championship, but like me, he knows it’s not happening under Cal. Don’t know how much longer he has with his health situation, but I’d give anything if he could see one more. May seem ridiculous to some, I don’t care, but that’s the main reason I want Cal replaced sooner the better. Cause he is done.
