Man, you haters are working overtime tonight. Yeah, Rhule won again! Now I got to hear, If he leaves I wouldn't even care. Of course you care. That's why you have to tell everybody how you don't care. That's how much you care. But we already knew how you feel. You go out of your way to twist everything just to serve your confirmation bias. Rhule ain't going anywhere! Get ready for Minny!

I'm thinking we are in alot better situation then when rhule came to NU...
if rhule stays, great keep on a building!
if not we are not paying thru the nose, and there are interesting coaches out there like asu coach
I credit rhule for that...no hate here...just takes time to digest situations we are thrust into...

time will tell, I can see why he would want to go to penn state..but if he doesn't not sure he would go anywhere else except the giants?

tony white? the oregon dline guy?

I think penn state screwed up..people say we unfairly fired solich but at least he had a downward tragectory after 3 out of 4 NC's...that franklin had them going up till they all turned on him for losing a close one to oregon. not sure rhule wants to walk into that, not sure it's a better job. maybe they can throw a few more million at him...but I'm not sure penn state fan is going to be ok with minnisota is gonna be a battle view..

plus I heard some folks say penn state players decided to come back and not go pro....having a coach that can do that seems pretty handy

Total over reaction on their part. Our program was trending down while PSU was trending up until a couple weeks ago. They bought the media hype when every real cfb fan knew Penn State wasn't going to win ****.

Crazy thing is that there was a ton of tOSU fans ready to turn on Day as well prior to last year... had he not just won it I have to wonder what would've happened there as well...

When is the last time Nebraska had a coach leave us for a ‘better’ job?
The list is few but I think the primary names that come to mind are Monte Kiffin, Lance Van Zandt, Warren Powers, and Kevin Steele.

Tony Samuel also left for the opportunity to be a head coach, but at a lower program - New Mexico State.

The secondary coaching position seemed like a revolving door under Pelini and/or maybe Riley - hard to remember. But I suppose maybe some of those guys left for a better job.

Marvin was Bo's guy there and when he f'ed up, it was whoever they hired.

So here's what I get, website listed below:

HCU NU scored 14
MSU NU scored 7
Akron NU scored 21

That's 42 points BUT you specified P4 schools, so you're right.

A scoring concern that specific quarter will eventually bite us in the *** when we can't score enough
4th quarter points to pull out an important game.

First quarters against p4 opponents 21-13 (how many fgs have we bypassed? 2?)
2nd 47-31
3rd 7-45
4th 44-16

What happens at halftime? At least our strength and conditioning seems to have substantially improved. But this won't work in November let alone the rest of the season. We did start 5-1 last season too. I'll be happy with 8-4. On paper we should get to 10 but the head scratching third quarters, turnovers and inability to shut down the run probably gives us 9-3.

It may be a silly notion, but we may want to consider coming out of halftime and try 15-20 scripted plays that are slightly different than the play calls on the fly in the first half? Maybe we need to speed up the play calling or slow down the play calling, or possibly less shotgun and more under center.

Maybe back to back bubble screens and things that we can do well we just don't do them often enough. Maybe run a few plays where you get their defensive personnel on the field you want, then run those scripted plays one after the other so the defense can't make any adjustments with substitutions on the fly.
Things like that.

By halftime, we've already figured out what has been working, unfortunately the opponent DC's have also figured it out. Clearly, whatever we are doing in the 3rd quarter is not working.

Generally, in that 3rd quarter scoring discrepancy, losing that quarter by an average of 11 points
(45 points divided by the 4 p4 opponents) should be enough to get you beat in competitive games, but if that 4th quarter reverses to a neutral or a slight NU edge, it's gonna result in some losses.

Nothing says losses like putting teams away in the 4th quarter.
17-11 average halftime score
19-22 average score after 3 qtrs
30-26 average final score. Because of strong 4th quarter performances because of high level conditioning.

It isn’t an 11 point deficit in the 3rd it is 9. Still too much but you have to include the points Nebraska scored in your calculation.

I have never understood the rationale to only assume the negative. The 3rd quarter stuff will stay the same but the 4th quart stuff Nebraska will eventually reverse or decline.

Any way you slice it, its a 2 score deficit in the 3rd quarter. Want to split a few more hairs?

I agree with this. I love watching the resiilency in the 4th. Haven’t seen that for years. But 3rd qtrs have been a head scratcher. Should be a focal point. If they can get half the production in the 3rd that they do the fourth. They could really turn a corner.

it seems we are slow at adjusting how teams come out and play NU in the 3rd

100% agree with your point. At any rate, what they've been doing and IF they could find a solution for that 3rd quarter lapse, it could mean the difference between 8-4 and 10-2.

I, along with others, used to dread the 4th quarter as the team searched for ways to lose, that part has, at this point been overcome. I have been concerned by our poor showing in the 3rd quarter and its just not once or twice but all 4 times. At some point, its gonna bite us in the ***.
