LSU, Ohio State, and Clemson are shoe-ins for the Top 3. Who is #4?

Does Bama stay in? Common sense says no, but can you really jump Georgia (with their dreadful home loss to USC) ahead of them? I think not.

Georgia? As stated above, hard to imagine them as Top 4 right now.

Oregon or Oklahoma? Neither has a real strong schedule.

Do Minnesota or Baylor enter the discussion?

Seems to me that Bama has a pretty strong case to still be in it.

I would rank Minnesota and Baylor 4-5 (for now), but I'm sure the Committee will put Alabama #4 in there.

Having these rankings weekly is detrimental to the Playoff's legitimacy. Now they have to justify every move through the weeks. It would be better for it to just meet once at the end of the season and pick a top 4 (rather than a top 25).

Wasn't Minn ranked in the teens? Unlikey they jump that high. I bet Bama stays in since they lost by a small margin.

Minnesota should probably be ranked higher than Clemson at this point. Who has Clemson beaten? With WF dropping out after a loss today Clemson will have played a total of zero ranked teams this season. If they go undefeated their best win will be...? TAMU? USCe? North Carolina? It isnt pretty.

Bingo. They shouldn't do these weekly and feel bound by what they thought earlier in the year.

My first thought was they absolutely should and the committee would be justified. If they thought Penn State was number 4, Minnesota can make that jump because they proved they aren’t a fluke. But like most people (I assume), I haven’t payed any attention to Minnesota.....because, well, they’re Minnesota. Look at their wins. They could just as easily be 5-4 right now. Close wins (7 PTS or less) over inferior opponents - S Dakota St, Fresno St, Purdue, & GA Southern.

they have Iowa, Northwestern, & Wisconsin left.
Baylor has the exact same issue. 4 wins by a TD or less to non ranked teams.

my top 4, in order. LSU, OSU, Clemson, Bama. And I hate it. I’d rather see some different names.

Georgia

I am going to assume OHST and Clemson win out. Therefore, they have 2 of the 4 spots. Ohio State still has a pretty tough road ahead of them though.

LSU is in if they win out or lose 1 game.
Georgia is in if they win out.
Therefore, if UGA beat LSU in SECCG, then both UGA and LSU make it.
If LSU wins out, then you'll have ohst, clem and LSU. I think Bama would claim the 4th spot in this scenario as long as they play well in November. Bama just lacks an impressive win. They really need Auburn to finish strong so they can close strong. Otherwise, their 11-1 has little substance behind it.

Georgia has a home loss to a team that is worse than we are. Would be the worst loss any CFP team has ever had if they make it....by far. I guess at 12-1 though with wins over UF and LSU, it would be hard to leave them out. Doesn’t really matter where they are ranked as they kind of control their own destiny.

Minnesota is 4th, Baylor 5th, Alabama 6th

But its all pointless, really. We still have 4 weeks of football to go

FWIW - On ESPN College Football Final Joey and Jessie both had Georgia @ 4 in their playoff poll

They arent having 2 SEC teams in it and shouldn't. SEC which appears more than likely to be LSU, Clemson, Ohio State and OU will be in it when they come back and win the Big 12 championship. Alabama had their chance to be in last night. No reason to give them another shot. If Georgia wins SEC title then they are in and LSU out. The commitee has stressed conference championships and that's the way it should be. Baylor would be a lock for 4TH team if they win Big 12 and undefeated but they not beating OU and maybe not Texas.

The updated ESPN FPI poll has Bama at 3 and LSU 4. I know it’s not playoff rankings but it’s funny that LSU didn’t move up and Bama is still ahead of them.

I agree with this but unfortunately the rest of the country is obsessed with this idea of ‘best’ rather than what you did on the field. Thus, Bama still gets in.

They are the best, they’d beat Oklahoma, Oregon and Minnesota easily. But that doesn’t mean they deserve to be in the playoff.

I’ve always said if you’re not the best in your conference how can you be the best in the country? This only applies to college football. All other sports I follow have true seedlings and playoffs. The current football playoff is a half assed revenue generator.
