St Laurence is battle-tested and very close to healthy
I think CC v Dixon will be one of the quarterfinals. I guess I like Wheaton Academy on the other side, but DePaul looks intriguing. St. Laurence too, but I thought they had a key injury. (is it okay to mention that?)
Same schedule led them to the 4a semi’s a year ago and a game they should have won

Rochester needs to hope MTZ beats Carterville in Rd 1. Rockets would play the Braves in MTZ and get the road game out of the way.
If Larry had its QB back then maybe but boy they have been very limited - I see them winning first 2 but then without the passing game its going to be tough. I assumed they were going to be 5A (seems more reflective of what they say enrollment is) but perhaps they will surprise and roll again in 4A
Anybody who has been paying attention knows Rochester doesn't want to play Mt. Zion, especially at home. They DO NOT win that game easily...
My predictive algorithm agrees.

Rochester & St. Laurence are too evenly matched to make a reasonable prediction at the moment.
Murphysboro is absolutely going to beat Macomb. And it will be comical to see if Breese comes to town and decorates the Big Muddy statue like some Rochester students did last year for their semifinal game.
Mt. Zion has played a schedule 2.5X easier than Rochester (per Maxpreps ratings), lost to 5-4 Taylorville AT HOME and a 2-7 Mattoon. If anything, Rochester would PREFER to play at Mt. Zion as the turf will allow the Rochester passing game with 3 quarterbacks to work. If it's at Rochester, well, the Rockets just beat a higher ranked team than Mt. Zion (SHG) on a sloppy field. Rochester's two losses are to the #5 squad in Missouri and the #60 squad in Illinois. Rochester wins this game by 4 scores. But we shall see after round 1. Olney and PND are trying to mess up this matchup.
I wasn't making a statement about the opponent or detracti g from MTZ...only the preferred schedule to allow for a home game in the quarters. Going away to MTZ would allow for a home game against Breese....provided everything goes as expected.
Macomb has played good teams (Brimfield and Farmington) but with the size of school that the Bombers have one would think this should be a close game?! I still picked Mboro but...
It’s nice to have a year where there’s discussions on someone challenging Rochester in the south. Hope they get challenged this year.
It's hard to make an analysis on things like the Mattoon loss without having all the info on a box score... If you watched the game you would know both starting inside backers were out and the 4-star from ILL was out for MTZ . Also, it was torrential downpour, gale force winds, and Mattoons homecoming... They didn't lose to Taylorville... This is my whole point... People that have seen this MTZ team play (especially lately) aren't saying things like this...
It will definitely happen this year...likely MTZ and Breese.

On the date of Mattoon's (the current 312th ranked team) homecoming which Mt. Zion lost, Rochester played in those same torrential rains and gale force winds against Normal U-High (the current 100th ranked team) and won on a grass field. Mt. Zion is currently ranked 184th while playing lesser competition. I just don't see the predictability of an easy time for Mt. Zion or the reciprocal for Rochester.
MTZ is a high powered spread passing attack that struggled with the conditions whereas Rochester tends to lean on the run game more, but I get your point. Mine was that the Mattoon game was an anomaly. I never said Mount Zion would have an easy day. I hope the matchup happens; would be a fun game to watch.
I think the Rochester Snickerdoodles are at least a 21 point favorite over anyone in the 4A south bracket.
Since 2009, the South representative except for one year has been a team that's schedule included numerous games against 5A and higher teams. These teams were Metamora, Rochester, SHG, Bishop Mac and Belleville Althoff.
As a Rochester fan, I want them to make it to Normal but with the schedule Cahokia plays in the South Seven u have to consider them having a good chance to make it to state.

Its good to have dreams but make them realistic!!!! Ive kept up with Olney since they beat Taylorville. Im happy they have had a damn good season but Dixon is tough. Wish ya all the luck!!!
Olney was 0-9 last year. Poster was commenting on his pick for Olney winning state.
Olney is a great story, but they are a 4A school beating 1 and 2A schools. They are likely a second round exit.

I've said early on that Breese has been one of the few teams which has slowed down Rochester. Having been to all three of their playoff matchups, all three of which were running clock victories, we feel perfectly confident but humble in Derek dismantling the Breese defense and Buecker stopping their offense which has only gone against lesser competition.
The average Breese opponent is ranked 270th in the state, while facing only ONE in the double digits. Whereas the average ranking of the Rochester opponent is 168th. Offensively, they are equal in stats. However, defensively, Rochester has slowed down better offenses. Let's hope this matchup occurs, which would be in the quarterfinals. This game is likely to occur in Breese as both squads will face underdog winners in the second round. I have complete confidence the Rockets will beat Mt. Zion handily, whereas Breese and Murphysboro matchup closely in style of play. And let's be frank, Murphsyboro is not only an annoying drive but their fans make noise like they're trying to summon Helen Keller from the dead.
