...is my prediction for the attendance. And that's a monetary issue. Thousands (perhaps millions) lost. If fans speak out this way and "vote" with their feet as opposed to getting on the message board or some other feeble way, how long can the program sustain itself that way?

Now, we may hit an all-time low in attendance against Iowa State. Especially if we lost the next two games, and having it Thanksgiving weekend, students gone, fans saying "F**K you Holgorsen".......should be interesting that weekend. Even with 2 wins leading in to the Iowa State game, I predict more of the 45,000 for that game.

Yes.............I get it. Vote by not spending your money. Let the WV administrators spend their money getting the fans what they want. Wins! Well, let me tell you something. WV ain't got the money to keep their fans happy. They can spend the entire state budget on the football program and still will get only 6 to 7 wins a year. Remember, we still got to beat Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, Kansas, etc. if we stay in the Big 12. These teams ain't going away. Do the math.
Not millions, but perhaps a million. If the average person spends $50 at the game and we don't have 15,000 in the stands that's 750,000 right there. That doesn't take into account any unsold tickets which would probably put it over 1 mill....idiot.

As a Pitt fan, I am well aware of our attendance problems. I have always acknowledged how well WVU fans support the Mountaineers with high attendance at your home games. It does feel strange to me to read concern on the part of your fans about possible empty seats for the rest of your games. I don't think the figures will be as bad as some of you may think, but it will be interesting to follow as a Pitt fan.
It will be over 50,000 ( more if it wasn't also on TV ) and about 25,000 more than what Marshall gets for a home game. Season ticket holders have already bought their tickets, suites' tickets have already been sold, and students have paid their fees. The amount the athletic department makes per game on tickets sales doesn't really fluctuate that much through a season.
With Big 12 money, the athletic department can sustain itself forever.

I doubt he'd be losing much sleep over not getting these bonuses when he's already guaranteed a couple million per year. If you want a truly effective incentive then you need to tie it to the win/loss column. You win, you get paid. You don't win, you don't get paid.
You're not getting the point - the point is with lower attendance there is less income/revenue. That's "free money" the university would otherwise have. I'm not even taking into account the money the community loses by simply having people in Morgantown (eateries, hotels, etc.)...WVU cares about those establishments too.
So I may be dramatizing it a bit...just making a point...and it's a point that is considered by higher ups; you can count on that. And by the way, the game is not a sell out last I checked so that's 50-60 bucks per ticket. Do the math yourself and you'll see that it adds up quickly when you figure in beer and concession sales, apparel sales, etc.

I can just speak for myself. I have not missed a home game since November 19, 1994 and I am not going Saturday. I have simply reached the point where spending 3 and half hours watching on TV is better than spending 13-14 hours driving, tailgating and watching game.

I've missed a few games between when I was a freshman back in the Cignetti days and now, but only because of other overriding events like serious illnesses or deaths in the family or being too busy with work to attend a Thursday night game, but I've never just not gone. I've been to many times more bowl and away games than the number of home games I have missed.
I'm going Saturday. But, if we lose it might be the last one for this year. Texas probably will be easy to find takers for the tickets. ISU the Saturday after Thanksgiving might not.

Seriously ... I have family members who for several years have done all but beg me to come to games (free tickets for good seats and a great tailgate with awesome food). I would have to travel so it becomes a whole weekend thing for me. I can only speak for myself .... but it's not worth it to me even with free tickets and free food. I can set aside a few hours to watch the game on TV and still attend to other, more important, things. My weekends are more well-rounded and I don't feel like I'm missing anything. We lose a game? Within minutes I go cut grass, go out with family, work on a project, or something like that.
I'm sure that I am no longer a real fan in a lot of people's books. But I'm not losing any sleep over it.
That's perfectly reasonable. Sports teams exist to entertain us. We don't exist to support them. The burden is on the teams to make people want to spend the time and money. As I age, the money might become less of a factor, but the time and effort becomes more of one. Also, the "party" aspect of attending no longer holds much allure as it did when I was younger.
TV is also way better than it used to be. Bigger, better picture, more angles, replays, pause button,, etc. I have to admit there are times when I'm glad we have a road game far away and I can stay home and watch it in comfort with little effort.

I appreciate the civil conversation folks...I really wasn't trying to rankle anyone but merely pointing out that with waning success (year after year) and a predictable mediocre to poor performance, what "could be" will lead the leaders to have to consider change and that would likely point in the head coach's direction. Speaking for myself - I purchase mini-packages yearly and I too can appreciate the big screen TV and what it offers vs. having to spend the extra cash to go. Now having said that, if there is a spectacular feel and product being put forth or even just a competitive product (which was not the TCU or Baylor situation) then I'd like to see it in person as do many others...which drives up demand, revenue and so forth. Big deal that there were 55K at WVU's game and only 18k at Marshall's game. Everyone in the State knows which football program is better and Dana must be fired. State subsidies more than make up the difference.
