In our 4 SEC road games, our opponents have shot 127 FTs to our 107 FTs. A lot of our opponents shoot way more 3s than us yet they are supposedly getting fouled more. Those 4 opponents have taken 91 3s to our 57 3s. Before SEC play we were making more FTs than our opponents had attempted.

It doesn't add up very well.

When our guys quit I was hoping they would all foul out. At this point, why not just play so physical and about everybody fouls out. The refs are going to call ticky tac fouls on us non stop so see how they react fouling all of our guys out for a few games.

Not going to do anything in the tournament anyway unless Cal changes some stuff. Playing soft, not rebounding like they should, not valuing the basketball and playing matador defense is a pathetic way to go about things. Our talent level good enough to keep us close a lot of games but outside of that a real disaster with what it could be.

Previous record vs UK was 41 set 29 years ago. It was pretty clear that the sweathogs were going to the line on every possession for the last 10 minutes.

Don't know where you got that information but it's wrong. There have been 34 UK games where the opponent has shot 44 or more free throw attempts. The most recent one was 30-JAN-2016 at Kansas where the Jayhawks shot 47 free throws.

Interestingly UK's record in those 34 games is 17-17. The first 12 were all UK wins (up to 1957). Since then UK has been 5-17, losing the last five in a row.

The last win UK had was 14-JAN-1997 versus Georgia where the Bulldogs shot 50 free throws.

Just as reference below is a chart showing the ratio of UK fouls to Opponent fouls for this season to date.

Also to give some reference below are charts showing Free throw margin (UK - Opponent) versus Personal Foul margin (UK - Opponent). Obviously the more fouls UK commits the more free throws their opponent will shoot, so it's not a big surprise that there should be a general downward trend.

For this season, the two games which are the biggest outliers are Auburn and Ohio State.

For the Calipari era overall, below is what the chart looks like, with the Kansas game being the most obvious outlier (bottom right corner).

Kentucky gave up 17 offensive rebounds, on those extra possessions auburn shot 13 fts, They also was stupidly fouled on two three points attempts. We also fouled late once to stop clock for two fts. Add those up and that’s 21 fts. Wasn’t the difference 20.

Don’t give them extra possessions on glass, don’t foul a three point shooter twice and we don’t have this discussion and we left auburn with a win.

Well done Sir! [thumb2] We were our own worst enemy, no one to blame but ourselves.

I’m not even mad. That was an epic SEC road job. We get one of those every few seasons. In fact, the list of opponents/games I was reading about with similar free throw disparities was like a trip down blocked memory lane.

I'd love to see Duke's and Kansas' charts. Pretty clear though: if a team has a lot more fouls than the other team, they are probably going to lose.
