The United States is not a Democracy. She is a Republic tha has and uses a democratic form of government. There are distinct differences beteween a Democracy and a Republic.
Actually saying the US is not a democracy, it's a republic that uses a democratic form of government, is like saying a Chevy Malibu is not a car, it's a sedan built on a car chassis. A sedan is a type of car just as a republic is a type of democracy. A republic is a representative form of democracy, as opposed to a direct democracy.

If The United States were a Democracy, Al Gore would have been our President instead of GWB as he won the popular vote. Winner of the popular vote in a Democracy is the winner even if by a single vote. With this in mind, at last count that I could find Hillary was leading the popular vote by about a 2%. margin (Wednesday night count). Major difference don't you think?

It's .2%, not 2% and not that major.

Makes this earlier post by me more valid.......we have even had elementary and high school students protesting and staging walkouts....where do you think it started.

I'm sorry, but the electoral college system does not mean a republic is not a democracy. A republic is a type of democracy. The US is a republic. Therefore the US is a democracy.

I believe that I am right, you believe that you are right, maybe we can agree to disagree. However, I find it interesting why our Pledge of Allegiance is worded "and to the Republic for which it stands" instead of using Democracy rather than Republic.

In academia there is a debate about how to categorize a republic. You've taken the etymological position. I've taken the functional position.
