We should be playing in any bowls we can. a 9 game season is not hardship

Let’s see, end the season now with a small bit of positive vibe, or play in 4-5 days against the triple option & a military academy? Hmm, teams a lot better than this one have lost to academy teams when they had little time to prepare. So....no thanks, pass. 3 weeks that’d be different, but blame the conference for that.

The "let these poor kids see their families again" justification for turning down a chance to play one more game makes it sound like the players were have been locked in a Mexican prison all year.

Maybe it felt like that to them, I don't know. And you don't either.

Correct, I don't know if the players equated this abbreviated season to being locked up in a Mexican prison cell all year long. The two experiences are remarkably similar. Maybe it is justified.

I'm fine with not playing a bowl game mainly because it wasn't earned.

That being said it's just weird that the program that fought the hardest and loudest about playing football suddenly doesn't want to... play football

In the future they should really STFU about wanting to play football. That's my only gripe.

Also to the conspiracy theorists, the Big 10 didn't do this to us. This was a chance to get more playing time etc. for the younger players and another game which is always a plus for a program that is currently in the dumps. Big 10 didn't stop that from happening, NU did.

what got me is martinez after being a turnover machine, proclaimed he's a fighter, thus won the rutger game. ok fine...they are all fighting warriors...
where is this fighting spirit gone as far as a bowl game, what happened?

This is NOT a normal year where the bowl game is weeks away. Projections had Nebraska playing in as few as five days. Likely opponent....9-2 Army.

These “valued” extra reps the offense would get will be negated as Army will shorten the game. The defense would spend a week doing a crash course working on “assignment” football, preparing for something they most likely won’t face next year. Add to that the risk of injury to our some thin position groups, and it ain’t ******* worth it!

For the record, I want them to go to a bowl, but NOT this scenario!

I love army, they run the ball , like we used to...this would be a tremendous, teaching moment for our whole team, from the kicker to the coaches. it could introduce them to winning football again, do not throw this gift horse to the glue factory!

do not fear who we were made to be, embrace it, with passion.
this whole pass happy thing is a death trap, and suicide wrap, we got to get back to what we was,
cause baby we were born to run!

I would like the OP and any of the rest of you who know of A bowl that the Huskers were invited to, to post that bowl name. As far as I can tell, there isn't one. Saying that the Huskers turned down a bowl invite is like me saying that I don't want to date Scarlett Johannson.

Or we could take our 365 yards rushing and our win and start focusing on 2021.

Even your wife would think you are crazy for opting out of that.

Spare me the nostalgia. There’s no benefit with the time frame that makes it worth it. That gift horse could turn into a jackass real quick.

Iowa and Wisconsin are playing in bowls, it is no wonder they are kicking our *** in everything. There is a more competitive desire in their programs to win. Nebraska has some deep seeded issues and are have become Pac12 soft. I get these kids need time off and it's been a long season but Nebraska isn't the only team that's gone through this.
How many games have our Women's basketball team lost to Creighton in a row?
What's the record of our men's basketball teams vs Creighton and Iowa?
What's our combined win loss total vs Iowa/Wisconsin in football?
It's not just about sucking but Nebraska has become apathetic towards competition. While it may not seem like a big deal we didn't play in the bowl game it tells me all I need to know about the culture that is going on at UN. I'm going to have a hard time having the same respect for this program and Bill Moos is creating a PAC12 type of culture where average or sucking is okay.

We weren't invited to any bowls. Kind of hard to turn down an invitation when hasn't been extended.

If this decision made by the team upsets you then that's a you problem.
Exactly. It's stunning how the lives of so many 30-60+ dudes hinge on being able to watch 18-22 yr olds for another meaningless week. Get. A. Hobby. Or maybe join the military, go on a 9 month deployment and let me know your decision when given the choice to extend your deployment or go home to your family. People need to get an f'ing grip.

then why are they voting about it? Laughing
We don't know exactly how it went down. It sounds as if the team met and I imagine they were told it was unlikely they would get a bowl invite but if they did it would likely be sometime in the next week. Even the possible bowl destinations that I've seen would have required Minnesota and Wisconsin to opt out in order for Nebraska to get an invitation.

Would you want to sit around for several more days waiting to see if you got a sloppy seconds invitation to Shreveport? You HAVE to remember that IF you take a vote of 150 players, the majority of those guys aren't going to get to play in any bowl game. I suspect that if you had polled only the 2 deep, the answer would probably have been different.

Playing in a bowl game is a helluva lot different this year than any other year in history. Sure is a lot of fun in Shreveport this time of year.. Boise on the 22nd would have been a hoot too.

I think a bowl committee probably contacted Moos and they had a pretty good idea when and where they would be bowling against who and that helped influence the vote.

But if not, and they were voting on the "concept" of going to a bowl at an unknown place and day if asked, then that brings us back to you. Enquiring minds here want to know even though the chances of Scarlett Johannson desiring you are infinitesimally small, if she did, would you go for it?

HMMMMM........ it would mean a messy divorce....... Um, well as I told an Opthalmologist friend of mine one time 30 years ago, it ain't worth it. Everybody I know with a grown family who gets divorced over some young hottie is miserable. Man. Getting old sucks.

I think the "unknown place" scenario is the only possibility that could have been considered on Saturday when the "vote" supposedly took place. Just my take on the situation. They were playing games until late last night.

I know what you mean. I made my bed so to speak with Mrs. HuskerWed and now I have to lie in it. The good news is it is a nice place to be and I wouldn't trade her for Scarlett or anybody else. Doesn't mean I don't "window shop" now and then....
