A natty is right around the corner.

A natty light.

Hopefully we got some contributors and they stick around.

38th recruiting class. But also the 7th best portal class. I was amazed at the rabbit we pulled out of the hat late this cycle.

Being ranked 38 at the end of the year would be an improvement and a bowl game.

With as many players as we got from the transfer portal, I don't really care. We addressed most of our biggest needs and with several guys who can play right away. Casey Thompson was our most critical recruit and has the potential to elevate this team well above what our previous qb could do. Some of the guys being talked about for potential attrition are guys I don't want to see go, so that seems like a good sign as well.

I think the 38th is including the transfers? 247 has us at 36 with recruits/transfers combined.

No, it's just the recruiting class. Rivals doesn't have a portal ranking yet.

On a somewhat unrelated note. TOS portal rankings are weird to me. It seems like it would be way easier to rate a transfer kid, who was playing against D1 competition, yet their rankings make little sense.

For instance, Marvin Scott and Sevy Morrison are rated the same as Casey Thompson? Those guys Have done nothing, while Thompson led the Big 12 in TD passes last year.

Case Mason, the baseball player with basically no football offers coming out of HS, is rated the same as Chubba Purdy?

Omar Brown was a FCS All-American and has the same ranking as Wynden Ho, that couldn't make the travel roster last year?

I hope rivals jumps in an starts ranking the portal guys too.

Last I heard that even though we were 7th there were still 2 big 10 teams ahead of us. MSU and Indiana. Just saying the other teams are not standing still.

We really really need a DT/NT. If we can flip that Miami transfer DT from ASU then I’d be pretty happy because we need to win *NOW*. We can’t wait two years for high school players to develop.

Worry about height school recruiting *IF* Frost is still here in 2023.

Can we flip him? Or has he already enrolled at ASU?

There are DL who don't want to be number two and believe they should be the top guy and there are some very good players who will hit the portal. I feel we will get a very good DL player from the portal after the spring camps are completed. I'm still perplexed by Dawson's recruiting, I'm hoping he proves me wrong once the portal opens up again after spring camps are completed.

The best thing about the 2022 season is Frost must deliver no more chances left, I totally expect him to deliver this year. I wouldn't worry too much about adding to this team because I have a feeling Nebraska isn't done and new surprises will come and will only strengthen the teams core units.

relationships are built starting in a kid's junior year of high school usually. I think Dawson was behind the 8 ball as far as trying to bring in D linemen. I'm not as worried about our D line as some. We'll see. Somebody will step up. I still can't shake the vision of Baker Steinkuhler playing DT at 265 lbs. Hell Cameron played DT at times at less than that for Peelini.

Meredith assumed the position when Baker blew out his knee. I was in Indy and got to see what happens when a 260 lb. DE tries to play inside The answer was sizable running lanes.

Baker said after he graduated that he never played at much more than 265 during the year. He said he would weigh in for fall camp at 275 to 285 but could never keep the weight on during the season.

So even though Dean said he should have been a left OT, he couldn't have added the weight for that position. Lots of DEs play at those weights.

He could have probably stayed with a 4-3 rush end as a LT but trying to play inside was too much IMO. His feet would have been an equalizer for him maybe. Baker had a health issue as well that really prevented him from being everything talent wise that he could have been. Outstanding athlete and great guy IMO.

Can't remember what his deal was, but his older brother had back issues.

We’ve always done good with juco or portal. It says your team is lacking something, mainly depth. And portal guys usually means there’s more issues or one and done which hurts your young guys. Rinse repeat and you get 20 plus years of not even a conf championship. And your big games are now Minn and Iowa which was once OU and Texas. Let that sink in.

Good point. That portal really wrecked Michigan State, huh?
