We clearly were trying to make Jones etal catch the ball in front of our DBs and limit deep plays. It didn’t work.

It’s such a ridiculous number that I had to go look it up. Looks like the worst defenses in the country have given up anywhere between 26-28 first downs a game the past 10 years or so. Before tonight, Nebraska was giving up close to 24 a game. For comparison’s sake, Cosgrove’s last defense gave up 25 a game, and Diaco’s defense gave up 23.

So yeah, it’s unusually bad. An outlier, probably, but really speaks to just how bare Frost left the cupboard.
