The space shuttle Challenger exploded 73 seconds after lift-off from Cape Canaveral, killing all 7 crew members. Like millions of school children, I was watching the launch live because one of the crew members, civilian Christa McAuliffe, was to be first teacher in space.

I built a strategic thinking seminar that I kicked off with a case study called Carter Racing...It was developed by the MBA program at Kellogg. It focuses on the idiotic decisions that were made and how external pressures can exacerbate bad decision making. It uses this disaster as the backdrop to the exercise.

It is now playing out in real time with all of the EO's....

It was a snow day when I was in school. A friend of mine called to tell me about it.
We had a snow day too. Watched it live at home. I really dont remember my emotion. I would have been 14 and I just remember seeing it and thinking about if they died instantly or if they were falling back to earth.
