When I was a kid he brought an exciting brand of basketball and brought us out of probation he will never be forgotten for those reasons. Plus when we showed up to play teams they knew we were there to destroy them! One more last thought he assembled the best team ever in the 1996 Champs!

Question... does anyone have the introductory press conference? And also his farewell press conference.

WKYT should have it. Maybe WYMT if you live in that region. I know my Mom contacted someone at WYMT about if they had a copy of the special report Charles Kuralt did in Letcher and Floyd County back in the 60s. Turns out they did and they sent Mom a DVD of it. May be worth looking into.

And then brought our in state rivals to major scandal. Perfect circle. Love me some Pitino. Hell of a coach. Always think highly of his time here.

"We will win and we will win right away"

I get goosebumps still today when I see that clip.

Wow where has time gone?? I was living in Sharonville, Ohio at the time he came to UK.. Remember it very well I was visiting my family here in Ky at the time.. I was so happy to have him as a coach, then he opened his mouth, lol.. Just kidding..
He was the very coach for UK at the time and I knew he would build something special as long as he stayed here.. I still think he is the second best coach ever at UK.. If he has enough common since to stay a few more year's UK would have bee up there with UCLA in all time champion ships..
But that is still a sad story to think about all these years later.. Hope Cal can do that, but I have my doubts..

Pitino was a great coach but he too had 1 title in all of that great decade of basketball. Winning a title is hard, and I believe officiating has as much to do with it as anything

Didn't know who our coach was until May 31st. Some of you cowards were pissing your pants about not having a 2nd point guard couple weeks ago.

I’ve never been more sure in my life than anything but I was for 96 and 12 winning it. Like, not nervous at all.
Funny think I never expected either team to lose and was never nervous headed into any game . I felt the same way to in 15 .

Pitino was one of the great basketball coaches at that time he brought UK out of a low time in BB and took them to the top, I was a Pitino fan till he went to UL, but these days I wish him the best again.

That decade was only 6 years of NCAA Tournaments though. 1 title, 1 runner-up, 1 Final Four and 2 Elite Eights in 6 years based off what he took over is a freaking miracle. He took over a total dumpster fire, couldn’t play in the NCAA Tournament his first 2 years, wasn’t allowed on live TV his first year. Crazy what he did in such a short period of time.

I can't help but wonder if he'd never left UK, what the program would look like today. What shape would the program be in? Hopefully UK wouldn't have had to endure a Karen Sypher type of episode and NCAA issues. But how many NCAAT titles would UK have won? How many wins would Pitino have racked up?
