Frost is right about the 31 points as the magic number. Just look at this season.

1 more TD against Purdue and that is a win. 1 more TD against Indiana and that is an OT game. One more TD against Colorado and that is a win.

I would argue if we can keep teams at 27 or fewer per game we will flip the record around to 9+ wins a season in this division.

Unfortunately, that won't happen. Mark Banker allowed what, 9 games where the opponent scored 30 or more on us for those two years before he was fired and we are at 15? I'd love to get rid of Chins because he sucks but I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

NU (18-19) 6-4. Not that magical.

Digging a little deeper, you discover that Frost is 2-3 vs. B10 teams so far when scoring at least 31 points.

Exactly, half the conference is giving up less than 20 points a game. Giving up 30 points isn't going to cut it in the Big 10. Sure maybe we'd win a lot of games if we had a UCF level offense. That offense was the #1 offense in the country and a championship level offense. If we have an offense like that, we need to be thinking about national titles instead of only winning 9 games because our defense sucks. If Frost doesn't start treating defense seriously, it's really going to limit his ceiling. It's also very possible it could lead to his downfall just as it was with Callahan.

Think we will have to do better than that. 8 of the 14 teams in the BIG have a ppg D under 24. 10 have it under 27. The only teams who are over that is US, Purdue, Maryland, and Rutgers.

Currently 7 of 14 teams score over 27 ppg on offense. If we want that magic 31 to hold we have to get a better D

Our defense sucks. That's what I read. I see potential in our offese. It's right there. We need much better redzone offensive efficiency.

Our defense is garbage, and I haven't seen any obvious attempts to answer the question of our linebackers.

The comparison of just one more TD in those games is not valid. While it looks good on paper, the game is played differently based on the score, field position, conditions, etc. To simply say we are a TD away in some games doesn't tell the entire story. The game plays out and the final score does not always tell the entire story, maybe a TD late, whatever.

There is no room for error with our D and even with our O. Frost will continually need to recruit elite players to make it work and always being a scoring machine. Sooner or later you must have a good D if you really expect to win anything of significance.

Not just defense. Nebraska's special teams under Frost have been an abomination.

Score more points than your opponent and you win. Brilliant! Give HCSF another extension.

If Alabama has one more TD drive against LSU, they're still undefeated.....

If Utah has one more TD drive, and they go to OT against USC, and remain undefeated with a win....

If Minnesota has another TD drive against Iowa, they're still undefeated....

If Miami has one more TD drive in 2 of their games, they're 8-2 instead of 6-4...and they go to OT with another TD drive in 2 other games....

If Washington has another TD drive in 3 of their games, they're 9-1 instead of 6-4.....

If Colorado has one more TD drive in 2 of their games, they're 6-4, instead of 4-6.....and they go to a 2nd OT with yet another TD drive, and are possibly 7-3.

If Army has one more TD drive in 3 of their games, they're 8-3 instead of 5-6.....

If Kansas has one more TD drive in 3 of their games, they're 6-4 instead of 3-7....

In other words, Nebraska isn't in as unique of a situation as you want to believe.....or, more directly, who gives a s#!+.

Or, since we're approaching the holiday season....if "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas.

Can't believe I need to post this again, but it clearly isn't sinking in.....

Against P5 schools while at Nebraska, Chinander has held 3 teams under 31 points. That’s out of 18 games.

If Frost really believes 31 is the magic number, he should probably reconsider Swiss cheese chins as his DC.

Not just defense. Nebraska's special teams under Frost have been an abomination.
Pickering's injury and then the awful performance of the departed scholarship kicker were killers. I know they've recruited some walk ons to fill those spots and were hoping for better out of Armstrong and Pickering this year. I'm kind of wondering if Armstrong has a physical problem this year as well. Our kicking game probably cost us a game or two this year.
