The Cats seem to have all the pieces. The only question I have is do they have enough perimeter shooting. To win it all I think they need to at least shoot the 3 with some consistency, Anyone else worried about this being a potential downfall?

Pretty much an irrelevant stat. In the tournament, you will have a few off games shooting threes. You gotta win those games. Much more important how you defend. That’s how you win. Nothing more important than defense. Good shooting is a ‘nice to have’

We don't have much of a coherent offensive attack just yet. The guards are just kinda balling right now.

Good Topic. On Threes are like other shots.. free throws etc.. have to hit a decent percentage when open looks or other teams will zone, pack line etc. UK has such quickness and slashing guards and wings that can attack the basket and get to the line that 3 won't be featured but can"t not have that dimension. The downside of threes is fewer line opportunities. UK is going to the line a lot. The point that the perimeter D is so critical. Teams that live and die by the 3 are going to see UK guards in their faces all night. That is how Cal responds to the modern game in a way that keeps UK on top. The other part of the 3 game is long rebounds. We have a lot of guys that can get to the ball well and make UK a good rebounding team.

Good points. Also looks like the Cats have a great advantage in that their guard trio all shoot well from the FT line.

I’m waiting until about 5 games in to see what we are shooting, rebounding and defensive-wise. It’s such a small sample size and we’ve played in two totally different game styles the last two outings.

I’m holding on to the fact that Nate, IQ, Maxey and Juzang will be able to take care of us throughout the season.

I actually came into this year with the thinking of it being a strength.

Kind of thinking Maxey/IQ/Sestina/Juzang/Allen are all knock down shooters.

I think time will tell. It will be important for Juzang and Allen (if he plays) to have an identity on this team because they are 2 of the 5 mentioned.

It is early, but I dont see this being a downfall.

Interested to see what the percentages are for teams as a whole by the end of the non conference slate. Curious by how different it is with where the new 3 point line is

If we hit 5 or 6 a game to go with the guards driving the ball so well then enough to be really dangerous.

You don’t have to be golden state warriors shooting the 3, but you do need to make enough so a team can’t just pack in the lane while you clunk 3’s all game.
Maybe but we win 30 games a year and every year we get the same threads. You can space the floor by doing what keion and whitney have been doing and that's midrange jumpers. We have enough shooters where you have to respect it.

Ask the best team we’ve ever seen from 1996.
That was great and a different time. Players stayed 3 or 4 years. I remember being shocked walker left after his soph year. There is more than one way to win games. At the end of the day we avg 30 wins a year and an elite 8 appearance not relying on 3 pointers.

I'm pretty sure we start out shooting ****** from 3 about every year. Takes a bit for the freshman to get used to the college game.

We have enough shooters. Tough to be consistent when you are sharing half the ball game with another player that can't shoot very good. Play the shooters most of the game, they would be fine.

Damn, I didn’t know we sucked this bad and Cal was so stupid. All you jack threes at all costs basketballs super geniuses need to clue Cal in. He’s only making about 7 mill a year. Maybe y’all could help him with a little cash too. Ain’t no tellin what a super genius makes.

Need to be efficient offensively. Shooting the three well can be an important part of that, but efficiency can also be achieved by strong offensive rebounding and getting to the line a lot (with good shooters).

I think it only becomes a problem if you shoot it so poorly that teams are able to dare you to shoot and take away other elements necessary for your success.

Literally of every concern for this year 3 pt shooting is dead last for me . This is byyyyy far the best shooting team we have had under Cal . Sestina Maxey Juzang Quickley are all guys who could shoot between 37-42% this year but the biggest difference is we also have guys like Brooks , Whitney , Hagans , EJ who can make 3's in the 30-36% range as well if they take the right 3's ( like the one Whitney made against MSU ) . So we have 8 guys who can make them and 4-5 who you really want taking them. That is by far the most we have ever had.

I pay no attention to our numbers against 1 opponent ( we didn't shoot the 3 bad aganist MSU ) . Get back to me on January 20th and lets see what the those numbers say.

I expect this to be a fine 3-point shooting team. Frankly, I don't want to see us in March form the middle of November.
