Don't know about drugs and other "cultural" things during Saban's first year, but Croom beat him, I think in Tuscaloosa. So he must've had a really bad year.
We can't be kicking starters off the team cause of weed if we ever wanna compete for the West. Legalize the damn plant already MS. Leach won't kick em off if it's legal or I would hope not if he isn't a dumbass. I have my doubts increasing by the day though.

^^This. And legal or not, Leach made a rule about it so they can either follow the rule or leave. You're either in all the way or not at all, none of this half *** crap that has been allowed to go on for the past few years
I seem to remember us having a coach in the mid-2000s who was committed to doing things "the right way." He cleaned up the locker room. He was also hell-bent on running his system, completely opposed to change.
That coach got 4 years and then got the boot. The boot really hurt him on a personal level, because he thought throwing out bad apples was more appeasing than winning.
Smoke as much reefers as Marshawn Lynch and Michael Jordan if you play in beast mode!!!
Yeah, we need our guys to be more stoned than they are already. That's a recipe for good football.
Croom could have been alright in the mold of Eddie O or Dabo. Instead, he tried to be Mike Leach-esque and that obviously wasn't his skill set. He should have been out recruiting his *** off instead of trying to convince everyone he was a West Coast Offense wizard.and oranges. Leach has won at two schools that are out in the middle of nowhere and had little success before he came. Croom was a NFL running back coach with no head coaching experience.
I'm sure you said the same about O around 2007.No he wouldn't have. He just wouldn't. Not even close.
Enforcing his drug rules. Failed drug tests = gone.
People work in places outside of their skill set all the time. Croom was not a bad recruiter, and could have been better, had he the motivation to do so. And further, that CEO skillset is not only successful at a blue blood program. Even though I never said Croom needed to go to a blue blood program, you're kinda making that up in your own mind. So, Croom would have been alright if he was an elite recruiter, with a practically unlimited budget to hire elite assistants on both sides of the ball, and a total willingness to be completely hands-off and let those assistants do their jobs. So in other words, he would have been OK if he was a completely different personality AND at a much more advantaged program? I couldn’t agree more.
Unfortunately, Croom sucked at recruiting, was stubborn as **** about his offensive system that never worked, and coached at a historical bottom dweller. So he was not ever going to be in that mold.
Along those same lines, Rockey Felker would have been much more successful if he had been in more of a Nick Saban mold. Too bad he couldn’t get past the fact that he was actually Rockey Felker.
An athlete might be kicked off the team nowadays for smoking tobacco cigarettes as well. You never know.

I am in MS but I asked our HR director about this and he said that he understands that it is comparable to alcohol now. Basically, what you do on your own time is your business but they have the right to punish you if it is in your system while at work if company policy prohibits it
Yeah, you are. Dabo has only been in one place, and Orgeron did a total 180 on how he coaches before he went to LSU. Had he employed his more recent strategies he could have been much better at Ole Miss. After all, he did recruit those 2008 and 2009 teams, one of which beat the eventual national champion on the road. He might not have won a title there, as that is the real difference between what a coach can do at an Ole Miss vs. an LSU, but would have been much better coaching from his true skillset. You are the one who referenced two coaches in O and Dabo that only had success at programs with prior national titles in the past quarter century before they were hired....aka blue blood programs...and nowhere else. One of which failed miserably beforehand at a school with the roughly the same resources and in the same state as MSU. So no, I’m not the one who made up anything.
