Especially since the Steelers took Pickett just five years ago. If the Pickett pick hits then he's still the Steelers starter, and for ten more years yet, and Rudolph and Howard are fine as backups and Rodgers never enters the picture and there is no reason to even draft Allar.
If Allar hits and is a high quality starting QB for the Steelers for 10-15 years it's going to drive Pitt fans absolutely nuts.
Well, that’s what happens when you’re stuck on a treadmill of mediocrity. I’d love to see the Steelers have a terrible season in 2026 and be in a position to draft someone like Manning. God, in this current draft, they didn’t even draft highly enough to be in a position to draft Ioane. This is why I would be content to let Rudolph or Howard start in 2026 and just be bad. FYI, I say this as someone who shares two season tickets with my brother and sister; these tickets have been with my family since the early 70s.

Mason won't be on the roster if they sign Aaron. If Aarom goes down it's Howard vs Allar for the role.
And right now it's 2 (maybe) because Aaron hasn't decided.
If that’s the approach they wanted to take, they would have already done it with Rudolph, instead of signing guys like Fields, Wilson, or Rodgers. They are not going to tank on purpose. It isn’t happening. I would have preferred they did it a few seasons ago to get into the QB market that had Nix, Penix, etc in the mix. I also don’t think Manning is a sure thing and has as much a chance at being a bust as he does of being a home run.
The best part about Allar going to the Steelers is that we get to replay every debate over his development in college over His entire NFL career. Can’t wait. At least Hackenburg went to the Jets, so nobody cared.
espn has the Browns as a winner for Rounds 2 and 3. I don’t get it.

I think DDS and Wheatley will have solid NFL careers. I hope the Eagles draft both of them.
Allar's major hurdle is mental. He needs to learn to be more calm in the pocket and work on his reads.
He also needs to let it fly and stop being overly cautious, which I believe was coached into him at PSU.
It will help when he doesn't have a coach that makes him terrified of taking a risk or running zone read. You have to set up your QB to be comfortable.
In the mindset of wrestling, you have to be comfortable being uncomfortable.
Right but you shouldn't be uncomfortable with what you're being asked to do. The issue wasn't reading defenses or dealing with pressure IMO. It was a scheme that was disastrous--especially for skillset.
You don't put someone that wrestles at 133 in a matchup vs someone 197 and then blame him when he lost
I would think it is a mistake at this point to trade or release Mason. I would keep all four if Aron comes back. Let Drew and Howard and Mason battle it out. At least in camp. I realize that money is a factor however.
So, draft position is proof of quality of personnel decisions ... but then you go ahead and disagree with the draft positions.

Money is a factor but if I'm Mason's agent I'm asking to be released if they do sign Rodgers. The likelihood of the Steelers keeping 4 QBs is slim and you aren't going to cut Drew. I don't see Mason beating out Howard.
The Stillers are just throwing crap at the wall. They have no strategic plan for the QB position just hoping for some miracle to occur and Drew Allar to turn into Big Ben. We know they refuse to tank so then at least figure out a plan to get a real QB and not a collection of mediocre QBs who can't get you to elite status. The NFL is a QB driven league. Why do you think the Cheatriots won like 6 Super Bowls in 20 years ? They had Tom Brady. Yes they got lucky ....on a 6th rd pick but the point was he was the best QB in the league for many years. KC and Mahomes is another example.

the ticker / dashboard they used a few years ago was WAYYY better than what they are using now … They are simply all over the place with obligatory feel-good clips which trod all over the selections …. And zero information is being revealed about trades

Also called Dinkins to Steelers in final two rounds. Instead they take an undersized TE from Indiana!
Franklin wasn’t the QB coach. Funny how that same QB coach who “failed” Allar had much success with Grunk.
One of Franklin’s former players thinks Franklin ruined Allar.
I was listening to the Pittsburgh sports talk station 93.7. They had Landon and Terry on for different spots. Both pretty much threw Franklin under the bus.
Todd McShay had an interesting observation about Allar's inaccuracies being more outside routes versus inside routes like curls, hooks, slants. Just brings me back to that throw against ND in the semis where he threw it at Singletons hips when he was running a flare route and was pretty open for a TD. But also the game tying drive against USC where he threw dimes to WRs on 4th down when they ran hooks and curls.
I think there's little chance Allar becomes an all-pro QB. I think he knows all about his footwork issues. I think about it like this... my daughter had a heckuva time learning to drive because she had a hard time filtering out all the crap that comes at you while driving: street signs, different lane dividers, cars coming from seemingly everywhere, birds flying across your windshield, etc., etc. She aced her permit exam, she knows all the rules but when it came to actually driving she got nervous and hesitated. I'm ashamed to say that I made it worse by constantly telling her what she should be doing and pointing out every mistake.

Can you fix a mental thing? Steve Blass, Chuck Knochloch, Steve Sax. Plenty of QBs have been derailed by the mental side of the game and the inability to fix “happy feet”. That is what separates them, not physical skills.
That really looked like the dumbest play every written up. And it is.
Terry is taking off the gloves. Safe to say he will never work for James again.
Landon was pretty brutal towards Franklin as well. Pretty much what many of us here thought of him and the offensive game plans.
