If Ono was at Clarion, I'd take off my Penn State Wrestling PJs, put on my Penn State Wrestling Sunday clothes, turn off Flo, race into church, put my envelope in the basket, grab me a bulletin, light a candle for the team and race up 79 and 80.

If Cael has a plan, I should too. I want to see Ono in Folkstyle.

On the way home I get a haircut in Clarion and get a Bob's Sub which is not as good as Slippery Rock one.

And congratulations Levi!

Jaxon smith 174 Ohio State hit an amazing duck in the finals against Marcus Espinoza-Owens and somehow gave up a TD to lose 4-2.

It was like he was surprised the duck came so easy that he forgot to gain control.

Smokey Mcclure UVU pinned Bouzakis in the 5th place match. Bouzaki tried to muscle him over and couldn't. Mcclure then muscled him to his back and cinched a headlock for the fall.
was that the difference in the team points?
if not it was most of it.

It was the difference, either that or Smith getting upset in the finals.

It's kind of misleading though. Ohio State had 6 first and 5 seconds. UVU had 2 firsts, the Smith upset and 184 where Ohio State didn't bring their starter. UVU had 10 extra wrestlers.

Bouzakis was in on a deep double and Oler stepped into him for the winning TD. Bouzakis just doesn't have the horsepower at 141.

A few other points in the match, Bouzakis went for something and just wasn't strong enough to finish.
I watched the Bouzakis/Fielding match and Nick just didn’t seem like himself. Seemed to be going through the motions but not able to put much into it. They spent a lot of time hand-fighting but seemingly without much purpose. It’s early in the season but if this is any indication of how Bouzakis might do at 141 - yikes.

I never judge based on teammates. Room familiarity is real.

It doesn't look good for Bouzakis at 141 though. He had Mcclure dead to rights and ended up pinned and I've never seen someone walk through a double like Oler did to him.

There’s a reason Cael never went after Bouzakis.

Kid has refused to learn how to wrestle. Then went to the one school that would indulge his worst features.

I agree that judging vs teammates is a mistake but isn’t Fielding a freshman (maybe RSFr)? Also it didn’t look to me like familiarity played much of a factor in this one.

Hot take but Bouzakis best weight is 125 lol

Yes he’s dead from the cut but his strength advantage is terrifying there

He wasn’t exactly lighting 133 on fire either and just DNPed at U23s I think at 61

his best chance to AA is 125 though it’s not a guarantee either obviously

And he just lost to Oler Clarion 15-12 OT . Oler also beat Karson Brown. Fielding is in the finals against AA Nogle Air Force
I couldn't remember Oler and had to look him up. Erie Prep 2025 grad. 129-37 HS career, 4x SQ, 1x placer (3rd as a SR).

In his first 3 years, he beat 1 returning SQ, no returning placers, and went a combined 1-6 at AAA states.

As a SR, he placed 3rd after losing his opener to a regional 3rd who he had beaten earlier in the year. That was his ceiling, with Forrest and Seidel at the weight. But after those 2, it was an atrocious weight. (He definitely benefited from Erie Prep dropping to AA in 2025-- a 2024 state champ took 5th at his AAA weight.)

TL;DR version: he's exactly the kind of guy who has to earn his spot at a PSAC school.

And then he beats Brown and Bouzakis in the same day. Go figure.

It reminded me a lot of Matt Wilps stepping thru Quentin Wright's desperation inside trip at their All-Star Classic match.

Holy cow. Compare to how heralded he was coming out of high school, it’s almost unbelievable where he is now.
Bouzakis just hasn’t been the same ever since George Zip failed to come back from that raid. 🧐

It's a shame what's happened to this once fun tournament. It's an Ohio State scrimmage now.

Not too long ago we'd see elite high schoolers, redshirts...Blaze beating #1 Ramos...
Clarion seems to be getting squeezed out of this particular weekend. Mercyhurst had their own open this weekend which siphoned off some teams that usually go to the Clarion Open. You also had Senior Worlds (only really applies to Bo), Preseason Nationals, and the Cowboy Invitational this weekend as well to further dilute the pool. Couple that with minimal marketing and a Clarion program that has been going through some lean years and you get what you saw today.
