“I was playing with Xavier [Henry] and Xavier was a talented player but he was just shooting the ball so much, so mad he wasn’t getting the ball, I called Cal up and was like, ‘‘Cal when you switch to Kentucky, if he’s coming, I promise I won’t go,’” Wall explained. “I told him that straight up. I told him I can’t go because I was like me, DeMarcus, E-Bled [Eric Bledsoe] and all of these guys are about to sacrifice and he has to sacrifice, we’re not going to get a lot of shots. We all are used to averaging over 25 or more on our team and we’re not about to be like that and I don’t think he could buy into that.”

It's crazy that the ball-hog player, a top recruit, only mustered $9 Million in the NBA. Yes, I know, it's a lot of money to us. But that's pretty much a miss for a top5 recruit/Lottery pick. You automatically get that type of money just to be drafted. X Henry did virtually nothing else after that 1st contract..

Meanwhile, the guys who wanted to play team ball, Cousins made $83 Million, Wall made $145 million, and Bledsoe made $92 million.

Edit: Cousins would absolutely be in the 120 millions, if not for an Achilles injury.

On Cal moving to Kentucky:

"I liked Kentucky anyway - I loved everything about the fanbase when I took a visit when Billy Gillispie was there. I loved everything about it. I just didn't want to play with coach Gillispie."

And that, kids, is why hiring decisions are important, no matter how great our school is.

Wall incapsulates a Cal kid. A leader, incredibly hard working, mature, stupid talented.... the list goes on and on.

Pretty cool quote, thx.

Wall on the G league: "For me, I don't like it. The best fun you're gonna have and the best experience you're gonna have is college. Like I said, if I was broke for 17 or 18 years bro eight more months ain't gonna hurt. That's how I look at it. The best fun I had at basketball was college, going on the road, being with your team."

Really like him, one of my favorites. Was reading something this morning, it was about the best players at UK between Rupp and Cal, and it's apparent that it's pretty much a consensus that Issel, Mashburn and Davis is the modern Mt. Rushmore of UK players. I guess that's true. But Wall was great, and if part of what makes Mash great is how he "started something" at UK and represents the beginning of the rise from ashes......Wall should get similar credit.

I’ve always made this argument as to why guys shouldn’t leave until you’re ready (and truthfully, you aren’t “broke” if you’re a kentucky basketball player. Travel first class, still get great training, have meals)

If I get hurt on the job I would expect to get paid until I am able to get back to work.
You talking about a regular job? Because I had my ear cut off in Oct.. I'm still drawing comp but have you ever fooled with them? They don't give a F about you.. They're trying their best to stop paying me.. Actually had to get a judge to overrule their cut off date of last mth due to more surgeries still yet on my ear.. And they can get another judge to overrule the judge overruled them.. But haven't.. Yet..

John Wall made Kentucky "cool" again. He forever changed my opinion that it's championship or bust.

I've been a UK fan since 1984, and that season is still my favorite as a UK fan. The atmosphere around games and traveling to some road venues was just incredible.

Pretty much this. John Wall (in addition to Cal) LITERALLY revived our program over night. Made us “cool” and “hip” again. His stanky leg dance went viral from Midnight madness before going viral was really a thing like it is today.

That entire team had so much swagger. One of the most exciting seasons in our history imo when you compare it to the dumpster fire we had been the previous 10 years. One of my all time fav teams.

The cousins “call me” game- legendary.

John Walls buzzer against Miami (OH)- made me WET AF.

I miss that team.
