24 Hour Rule

The players have a 24 hour rule but will be right back at it preparing for Michigan this afternoon. As a fan, I'm doing the same thing. The only things good about NIU and UNI is a lot of players got reps and the team got to continue to develop. I'll watch highlights one more time today then flush that game.

Michigan is formidable, especially at home. It will be interesting how Howard and the offense handle being on the road. Michigan's defense is very good, will we be able to move the ball? Can our defense stop the run, especially Underwood? Make him beat us with his arm.

Or did you mean that Desmond Howard is going to be able to suit up?

The hawks do have a Howard I think at WR.

I think you are talking about our QBs and offense and if they can concentrate on the field and not think about all the fans they will be fine. Mich Stadium is noted for not being near as loud as one thinks which is what I have heard directly from my son and other friends who have gone to there for games. Their stadium has a lower angle to their rows and the sound escapes somewhat

This is true. With the low angle of the stands that you described, as well as the front row being far away from the field, at least HALF of the 100,000+ fans are farther away from the action than ANY seat in Kinnick. The home field advantage the Wolverines have had over the years has had a heck of a lot more to do with their football team than an intimidating game atmosphere….

my sunday morning thoughts before the coffee starts to hit--

considering how badly we struggled to beat isu at home, i'm not seeing a win on the road against b1g's beloved michigan

yeah they struggled againt wmu but that happens. michigan seems built perfectly to beat iowa. talented big OL with elite RBs against our DL (what isu did, these guys can do far better), their DL and secondary are both humming (what isu did, these guys can do better), underwood is a load (whatever isu's qb did, underwood is better). michigan basically is a far more talented isu who we have to play on the road in our first road game. we have a PAT missing machine (and that's at home). iowa has no personnel (or 1 at best) that those guys would take over what they already have.

now if iowa players had more starts (ie experience) and if michigan's qb wasn't a threat with legs, it would be a better matchup. as things stand, osu at home might be a better bet than michigan on the road in first game.

Michigan lost to WMU in every way you can. Yes, they beat OK, but OK just beat the juggernaut known as New Mexico by a whopping 14-6. And they had all they could handle from UTEP for 2 1/2 quarters.

I consider it fortunate Whittingham hasn’t been forced to go to Tommy Carr back there At qb. With a competent efficient qb they would potentially be very good.

I enjoyed NIU. I enjoyed the first quarter yesterday. At some point, it became obvious that UNI was really weak. Neither of those games really did anything in regard to predicting how the Hawks will look against real P4 competition. I don't see a W next week. Hope I am wrong.

The one thing I’m encouraged by in regards to NIU and UNI is we dominated from start to finish and looked how a potential playoff team should look against them. Plenty of times in early season games we don’t look good regardless of the level of competition.

The Michigan game will tell us a lot about this team.
