We did not write checks for $22 million for last years roster. The roster last year more likely than not had an NIL valuation of $22 million. Both can be true at the same time.

Apartments, cars, free gear, etc have value without the player receiving any cash. 2 year contracts exist and are "promised value" but if the player leaves, the money isn't spent obviously. A WHOLE bunch of things other than actual cash went into that number. But it's much easier to just say $22 million dollar roster, than to explain it to people. Actual cash, for one year, probably much closer to $13-$15 paid out.

UK probably spent way more than $22 mil.

But who cares? It is what it is.

UK should be the spending leader.

I think there may be a federal criminal statute protecting the release of private tax information.
That’s why I said voluntary, if the person who’s return it is shared it to the reporter. He doesn’t have to publish it, but actually seeing a real number.

agents like to tell you the max to make them look like good agents too.
No, agents like to push the max because it sets the market for the next contract. And then the next one sets the market for the next one. An agent, a good one, always has the next contract in mind. It’s exactly the reason Albert Pujols signed with the Angels rather than taking a reduced deal with the Cardinals. The agents and MLBPA forced his hand. Why? His contract set the market.

All the fussy reasons for caring are ridiculous. Had Lowe actually played and JQ stayed on the floor from St Johns to the tourney, the roster cost may very well have made sense. But who knows, maybe UK paid $30 million last year and Goodman was way off. Maybe a few other schools paid $22 million and no one mentioned it because UK makes the news. Maybe all players were paid with Malone gift cards. Some would find a reason to make this about the same ole same ole.
Lowe and JQ MIGHT have been worth 2-3 wins, total. That doesn’t move the needle on last season, at all. That roster makeup was trash. A big coming off ACL reconstruction and a third string bad all ACC guard that couldn’t defend you weren’t going to change the trajectory of the season. That agenda is so effing tired and worn out. When “fans” stop making excuses for this mediocrity we will all be better for it.

Doesn’t matter what the number was. We blew. 14. That’s the most important number from last season. Focus on that. Improve that GREATLY and the rest doesn’t matter.
I agree and I think this is a perfect roster for Pope to prove himself to be up to the task of bringing us back to the top. I don’t need a dollar amount to convince me of it. Just gotta do it.
