The 32nd-ranked player in a state of 5 million people still has offers from major Power 5 programs. Damn. And No. 39 is committed to Tennessee, while No. 40 is committed to Vanderbilt.

I thought 5 million was too low, but I searched and it was too high! The population is actually just under 3 million. Pretty amazing football talent.
I remember an old article from USA Today I think it was. It was an article on NFL defensive linemen. Per capita, the heart of SEC country led the US and I don't think it was even close. I think Mississippi was even #1 overall in the country. I didn't see a similar study on NFL defensive backs, but it wouldn't shock me to see Mississippi way up there as well.
Edit: oops. This kid is from Alabama. 5 million is right. But both Mississippi and Alabama are right up there in high school talent ending up in the NFL.

I remember that study, too, and the conclusion was:

the biggest people come from where the biggest people are

regional obesity rate directly correlates to number of D1/NFL offensive and defensive linemen produced by the region

basically the south + upper midwest

Re: Obesity

In 2000, the nation's fattest state, Mississippi had an obesity rate of 23.7 percent.
In 2020, the nation's fittest state, Colorado, had an obesity rate of 24.2 percent.

Another number: In 1990, Mississippi's obesity rate was 15.0 percent. Damn, we're fat.

That's a lot of bad eating and exercise habits. Or genetically fat people are having almost all the children in the U.S.

The fatties can fornicate.

How does the fittest state have a higher obesity rate than the fattest state? Guess it depends on how "fit" vs "fat" is calculated.

Look at the years. The 2000 Mississippi rate (the fattest state then as now) was lower than the 2020 Colorado rate (the fittest state then as now).

In other words, it took only 20 years to turn Colorado into Mississippi — except Mississippi just kept getting worse.

It wasn't enough to just have a donut. Oh no, now we have to put gummi bears, or oreos, or god forbid licorice on them. Why can't I just enjoy a cake donut with a moderate amount of frosting?

Sugar is poison. Your body can handle a little at a time. A lot will kill you.

Because fat people need more fat.
