In 5 years at Oklahoma her ceiling has been 2 sweet 16 appearances. Nothing special.

Who does give the most reliable recruiting rankings. I realize it’s all subjective and a crap shoot but anyone have an opinion on the most reliable site?

I really don’t know, My main thing with any recruiting rankings is I would guess many of the people doing the rankings have never seen many of the players they are ranking play. I’m sure some of the prestigious AAU tourneys are covered but it appeared like Jada for example didn’t play in nationally prominent events and again I doubt many of the folks doing the rankings have seen her play. I know the guy that covered the tourney in Minneapolis really liked her game.

Good question, and hard to know. HoopGurlz started in 2006, and then was picked up by ESPN, so ESPN has about a 20-year track record. The people doing the ESPN/Hoopgurlz rankings left ESPN in 2012 or 2013, and started Prospects Nation. ESPN then hired new rankers. So both ESPN and Prospects Nation have a long track record that you can evaluate. Generally speaking, the ranking services do a better job of evaluating the guards and wings, and do a pretty poor job of evaluating posts/centers.

Rivals and 24/7 are new to the WBB rankings game in the last year or two, though the 24/7 guy is also one of the Prospects Nation guys. The current ESPN guy, Shane Laflin, is a former college assistant/graduate assistant coach at Texas, UT Arlington and Rice, FWIW. ESPN updates their rankings more regularly, and attends USA Basketball tryouts (as does Prospects Nation) and shoe company and other events. For example, ESPN updated their rankings twice this summer, once after USA Basketball tryouts and once at the end of the summer. In contrast, the current Rivals Rankings for the 2027 WBB class are from July 2025 (despite what their website says), and the current 24/7 rankings are also before the summer of 2026.

The below chart of AP All Americans showing their ESPN high school rank suggests that the rankers do a decent job, except for the big girls, e.g. Megan Gustafson, Teaira McCowan, Ruthy Hebard, Naz Hillmon, MacKenzie Holmes:

Can someone help me here? Tried to research this to no avail.

Why would so many players leave at this point in the preseason from one league.? I was hoping to find a recent ruling to this specific league that allowed for this (eg grad transfer ruling). Again, found nothing regarding this besides Skim's post below.

Now I bring this up for a reason and why I put it on this thread.

Just spitballing here. Let's say a new recruit commits to a team. Let'suse Hartwell as a recent example. Hays now feels like oh hell no, I can't compete against that talent (just play along here for this example). Hays goes into the transfer portal like these Ivy League players today.

Now Iowa is down to 10 players and no true viable backup for Heiden this season. I mean that can put teams in a world of hurt today if this can happen at this point of the preseason when many future recruits are committing to teams now. You have little to no recourse to recover in a timely fashion.

I hope I'm missing something here that didn't come up in a search stating why this situation is taking place now. TIA

Ivy League doesn’t allow 5th year of eligibility.

This is a situation that is specific to the Ivys since grad students cant compete and these players won't actually be transferring out until after this season is over.

Interesting! Didn't realize you could go into the portal for a future season after the current upcoming season that hasn't played one official game yet. Thx for the quick responses!

I didn't either, but it makes sense in this case since it's a given that these players won't be returning after this upcoming season ends. This just kind of gives them a head start to see if an opportunity does exist to continue playing basketball at another institution or to hang it up altogether.

I always say the same thing about football x 10. There are probably 100,000's kids playing high school football, and yet they really think they can name the top 50, 200, 400, whatever when a good majority none of these guys ever see play, and they don't camp at the big camps. Some guy like Buffington playing 8 man football, or Greenway playing 8 man in a Dakota

Never thought of it like that. Thought all players would get basically the same time to transfer out after the season to put their hat into the ring. Guess if I was the coach of their current team, I'd want their full attention to my team and no distractions during the season.

Now those possible distractions are legal and many more teams can contact them throughout the season. I realize they probably have agents to take most of the distraction during the season. However, it could lead to one foot out the door too soon during the season and as a coach of their current team could leave an uneasy feeling of where their head is really at.

This may be a dumb question. Why the hell does the Ivy League do this? If I want my whole career at one school, the Ivy League can miss out on these focus driven players. I get many want that prestige on their resume and live with the transfer out. This on the surface seems to have more cons than pros to it for the league but I might be missing a key piece to the puzzle that could change my mind.

A lot of 2028 talent has taken unofficial visits.

There are 3 still alive from my recent notes. The others don't have us in the Top X or are not on their official visit schedule.
Nation Williams 6'2" - 6'3" PF/P (still taking visits - 2 remaining ND & UCLA)
Sienna Williams 6'3" F/P (still taking visits - 1 remaining as haven't found a MI visit yet)
Santana Sabus 5'6" PG (can't find a top x list or visit schedule yet so we have no idea where we are with her)

EDIT: Just found a visit to CO for Sienna Williams.

It should be noted there are wide variety of ranking matrix being used by a diverse group of raters. Many of the matrix look for similar skills (ie. rebounding, ball handling, defense, use of both hands etc,). The differences in ratings can often be attributed to the values placed by the individuals performing the rating and the values they place on each skill. This results in the same player getting widely different ratings because the different services (rivals, espn etc)don't use the same matrix or rater.
