I don't think it's illogical to profess that in order to improve the results of the past decade, PSU needs to recruit better talent and splash in the portal. In a big game, with 8 or 9 participants on each side of the ball being comparable in talent and execution......its the unblockable edge or the receiver who is unimpeded by double teams that make the difference.
Game breaking talent, in high school recruiting or the portal is currently more expensive than PSU is able or willing to pay.
That is an issue.
Fyi.....at least four of Campbell's 3 star commitments are projected to receive a 4th star before signing day.

I'm overcome with excitement. Others will move down....as up and down is the way it works. It won't put PSU in the top 10 (final) in the 24/7 rankings and they are currently #17 in Rivals. Are Ohio States recruits all going to be demoted to 3 stars?They have 2 5s and 9 4s;
How about Oregon(11) USC (1 5) (8 4s), Michigan (10) and UCLA (9) with classes currently rated above PSU....not to mention Nebraska that has a higher score quality per commit and the same # of 4 stars as PSU. Are you all warm and fuzzy with being #6 in the conference (rivals) in recruiting?
Recruiting to date is no worse, but no better than the past decade. That doesn't translate into "excellence at the highest level.." to anyone without blue tinted Campbell monogrammed sunglasses.
My criticism of the current state of recruiting is not a knock on HCMC. It's a commentary on where PSU stands in the current world of college football. Either the so called "standard" needs to be adjusted to what we seemingly can afford or more resources are needed.
PSU doesn't have a single game with a team predicted higher than
a 8.5 win total on FanDuel this season. They better run the table this year or find some cash after that.

You re correct and at the.end of the day PSU will more than likely end up with 12-15 4 star recruits....pretty much the typical number that they have signed the last 10+ years. And,, if they combine that with a solid portal class things may just be okay. Buy alas there will still be some consternation among some fans.

Yep, and by all accounts hockey is by far his favorite sport. Heard elsewhere that unfortunately his wife has a serious medical issue. I think PSU football NIL is not a thought in his mind right now with everything he has going on in life.
Is he even a big football fan?

Our HS recruiting has not dropped off a cliff despite what the drama queens on this thread say. As Campbell gets more entrenched in his role and we see the on field success then it will improve to at a minimum the level of Franklin. Although I think we are right there now for the most part. But that is just counting stars and there is so much more to it than that. For example, can we develop a QB? Can we actually recruit and develop or get through the portal a WR with a pulse? What is our approach to recruiting linemen? I don't think it is easy at all to project out that a 4 star HS O Lineman will be a sure fire success in college. I think the HS star system for that position more than any of them is unreliable.

On the topic of star ratings, some/most of these high 3 star guys will get bumps, we already have seen it with Wood and Dean. Two very important recruits. HS recruiting is important but not nearly what it was 5-10 years ago.

Speaking of Dean, I hope his visit is really a good experience for him and he solidifies his commitment to PSU. Other posters have mentioned this and it is a good point regarding Georgia. What does their current WR recruiting class look like both in '27 but also the guys one year ahead in '26? How much competition will he have to get on the field? Why was Georgia slow to the party to show interest? How much of a priority is he for Georgia? Not saying he would never flip but hopefully he and his family are thinking about all these factors and asking these questions.
