I’m aware. Montgomery would be a good get too, but Fakatou, while a long shot, has a much more impressive offer list.
True, unfortunately ND is the most likely to land Fakatou. It seems like they have somewhat deeper pockets than we do. It’s a damn shame because we had them in the bowl game and gave it up.

One game shouldn’t make that much of a difference; it’s not like we lose to them every season like with OSU. That was the first time that PSU had played ND since 2007, when PSU crushed them.

I also believe that loss to ND shifted things in terms of the program’s trajectory and our current standing in college football, especially stacked against ND.

We had the better team and multiple moments to put them away. It was choke after choke in that game. The Allar/Singleton drop for 6, Miller fall, Allar pick. I mean giving up 3 before halftime to the back up was an epic fail. The staff and roster never bounced back. And Freeman rode that game into huge recruiting and portal wins.

I don’t think we beat OSU but I think we had a better chance. And a straight up loss in the natty game probably seems better than another big game loss in which we choked the game away.

Even after that loss, PSU was thought of highly enough to be ranked preseason #2. I agree with you about all of the chances that PSU had to win that ND game, but that game was a microcosm of the Franklin era: good but just not good enough. That loss sent me into a funk for the better part of two weeks; that was the worst that I felt after a loss since the 2005 Michigan game.

Adding insult to injury, shortly thereafter we lost Jajuan Seider to ND, how does that even happen.
Everything pointing forward didn't have a good feel to me, mostly leadership.

Bourque checking out ND next week.

I don’t know anything, but it’s one of the recruitments where he’s had every opportunity to make the call and it’s always been a miss. Missing on him and Mencl would be a gut punch. Let’s hope the familiarity wins out.

When was the last time that ND didn’t have a free agent as their starting qb under their current head coach? If I were a qb recruit, I’d never go there because most likely they’re going to bring in an experienced starter from the portal every season because they don’t want to have rebuilding seasons.

Hmmm, let's see..... last season. CJ Carr started as a redshirt freshman.

If we beat ND, Franklin gets his raise out of the University over the summer and hits the 2025 season with clarity and focus. We probably beat Oregon and possibly Indiana and make the playoffs. Goodness, ND was so beatable that day and we clearly had the superior talent.

Supposedly if those two do not work out, Will Wood, another Mass. qb, may be one of the fallbacks.

Adam Breneman has good YouTube content. He interviewed our new GM. If you are curious how we evaluate talent, it is a good interview.

Adam is a good interviewer, he has the talent and asks good questions, but he struggles refraining from the constant “yep”, “uh huh”, “yep”, “uh huh”. It detracts from the content.

That ND game was a microcosm of what Franklin became at PSU. He just never could get that big signature win, really ever. We did just enough to lose that game like so many other big games (mainly vs OSU).

I remember having a bad feeling about that game beforehand because of Franklin's poor track record and then in the 2nd half having this sinking dread that we just don't win games like this under Franklin and sure enough watch us fritter away a very winnable game. The biggest issue I had with that game is why does our 5 star QB starting like his 25th game play like he was 3 star freshman in his first college game vs a much better team? That is obviously on Allar but coaching has a lot to do with that. Why is he not mentally ready? Why is he making really bad decisions? Why are his mechanics failing him?

If we beat ND then I still think we don't win the NC in 2025 and probably struggle to get in the playoffs. Why? Because Franklin couldn't coach in big games and Drew Allar had the uncanny knack of making losing plays at winning time. There is no way we beat OSU. Oregon? Maybe, but again Allar never improved so who knows. Indiana most likely beats us. I know we were very close to beating them but I think they overlooked us and we played our best game. If we made the playoffs this past season I could see a first round loss.

What's the point? I think that ND meltdown could have been a blessing in disguise for the program. It created the dumpster fire that was the 2025 season (which sucked) but we got rid of Franklin which was necessary. If he got an extension last year then how many more big games were going to lose in how many subsequent seasons? All the while consistently underperforming.

Even if we beat ND and landed some of these guys who ND got and even kept Seider I am telling you Franklin would still find a way to screw things up in big games.

We have a new regime and do have to be able to compete with ND in recruiting and hopefully we can. I really hope we land either Bourque or Mencl which would be a huge boost and show we can get at least a few elite guys. Then we need the on the field performance where we actually win big games and show mental toughness in winning time.

That’s a bit of a head scratcher. I guess the kid didn’t want to go far from home, but if that’s the case, I would have predicted the Hawkeyes.
About three podcasts ago. Ryan Snyder said that it appeared PSU had put several olineman ahead of Slagle. Maybe Slagle had cooled on PSU or visa/versa, but when he said that it was pretty obvious he was headed elsewhere. This was before the kid from Bel Air committed and it appeared we were all in on him. They are the exact same body type.

Also heaven forbid in this day and age, that a kid who is a football talent actually likes the school he is to attend. Campbell and staff may have really sold him on Ames

Ok? I was just making conversation. Maybe I am misreading your response, but you seem annoyed by something I said. I’m not sure why.

Central Catholic’s OL might be one of the best ever in high school football.

Does that make 3 D1 commits on their OL next year? Sassic and then they have one committed to OSU and another to ND. How could they not be the favorites in 6A next season?

The Prep had a great o-line several years ago. Maybe 4-5 D1 signees. Still very impressive, especially the caliber of offers.

It probably depends on what LaSalle and St. Joe’s Prep have coming back. LaSalle manhandled them last year, but they lost their big offensive weapons to graduation, QB to Mizzou, WR to ND, OT to ND.

Man, so great to see PSU and Campbell eating James's lunch. VT ranked 45th for 2027 on 247 and PSU is 9th. Good job James!! You are not the thing. And never were. Love this. Will be shocked if VT cracks the top 30 this year.
