The CAFE standards now have $0 penalties associated with them, so there is not the same incentive to do stupid stuff to satisfy politicians. And they are rolling back the standards even after eliminating the penalty, which I guess is helpful but presumably any statute that restarts the penalties will also up CAFE standards again.
As good as that sounds, eliminating the penalties & rolling back standards a year ago would take at least 5 years (probably more like 10) to have any impact. And automakers can’t plan on these changes will remain long term because you know democrats are just going to reinstate them when they get the chance.

The guy at the dealership told me that GM used cheap materials to manufacture the lifters and that was really the problem.
Honda is having the same problem with their turbo 4 cylinder engine. Not the lifters.. but asinine cost cutting design choices that has resulted in probably 10 percent of these engines blowing their cylinder head gaskets.

Four more cylinder head bolts would have kept the entire issue from happening. But nope. They wanted to save that money. Well.... what's that now 10 year engine warranty with shops full of repairs eating into that minimum cost savings per vehicle? At least Honda extended the warranty to 10 years. Ford had the exact same problem in their small ecoboost engines and just said "oh well.. better luck next time."

And the lifters are also allegedly complex from an engineering standpoint … as part of the fuel management/cylinder deactivation system, they’re designed to collapse when their cylinder is deactivated. But sometimes they fail, the valves get stuck open or closed, and kablooey.

Anyone got any scoop on the 2027 GMC trucks? Supposed to be fairly major changes in and out. Look like they'll start production in October with November/December deliveries. Love the Denali Ultimates. although ii don't like to buy newly designed engines in the first year \ of production like the new 6.6. Would lean the 6/turbo diesel for my needs. Rumors are they are vastly improved in appearance at the least.
Chevy and GMC ate one and the same except badging
