Didn't see a thread for this. Nice start for Mexico.

Water breaks are just corporate greed dressed up as concern for player health. Change my mind.
I mean, it gets freaking hot in most of the USA. Have you ever played 90 minutes of soccer in 90 degree heat?

Perfect start. Dest as an out and out winger is a masterstroke by Pochettino. Richards and Pulisic are our most important players, and our most brittle.

Telemundo not showing ads during the (needed) hydration breaks. Much respect.

Heck of a start for the US

Yeah, I’m a little annoyed by the commercials during the water breaks. They didn’t do that during the Qatar WC, and they didn’t do it during the friendlies in the run up to the start of the tournament. I thought it was really fascinating to watch the players. I’ll gather around Poch and his MacBook during the breaks. Meh.

Also, the Multiview feature on YTTV is handy, but I never really used it because I felt like it was hard to pay attention to anything. But it worked out great last night with the soccer game and the Diamond Heels. Didn’t miss a thing in either game.

I'm not much of a soccer fan, what outcome should we want between turkey and Australia? A tie or one team to win?

We’d probably prefer an Australia win, as Türkiye is a much better team and it would help us win the group even with a draw against them. Honestly a draw would be a great result for us.

Winning that game against Paraguay, particularly with that goal difference, is huge. I would expect Paraguay to be competitive in both of their remaining games.

Both Australia and Turkiye look dangerous. Australia has some attackers that will give our defense problems with their pace. Irankunda is a real problem.

Who are y'all pulling for in addition to USA?

Spain-Cape Verde surprisingly competitive. CPV goalie with some nice saves, and some help from the crossbar.

Messi made it look easy - he looked like he was having fun. He is the GOAT, IMO. Ronaldo is probably swallowing PEDs by the handful today.

I’m trying to understand how/why Alexi Lalas decided being a complete asshat/douchebag was the way to go. You can tell Henry and Zlatan HATE being on air with him. Where did all this pompous arrogance come from?

I've tried to like Alexi Lalas.. He has his moments where he isn't scared to make an unpopular point. But you are right.. It is mainly tiresome.

And I'm sure he's always been a know it all. The fact that he has more seniority than most of the other panelists probably makes him feel obligated to "lead the way".. "be himself".. etc.

Nice performance yesterday with Pulisic. They keep rolling!

I also hate Lalas, he was missing from the broadcast yesterday, hopefully a sign of things to come.

He brings nothing to the broadcast tactically or analytically. And he’s smug as hell.

Our reserves should be better than Turkey's best.
Why?
It's brutal. It's not embarrassing. They have a lot of talent. Turkey is a pretty serious soccer country. Reached the quarters of the last Euros. They have played badly here, until tonight, but they aren't some kind of doormat.

Exactly. Think we were ranked #17 pre world cup, they were 22. Not much difference. And we played reserves.

FIFA: We just realized the players running 5-8 miles per game may need a water break... and we totally aren't doing it for additional ad revenue.

I was disappointed that in the games in Vancouver, there weren't ads on the field walls for Canada Dry.

I used to love their Ginger Ale commercials with all the celebrities singing, "It's not too sweet. It's the extra-dry treat. Canada Dry Ginger Ale it's not too sweet."

I remember one that had Broderick Crawford recreating his Highway Patrol character and saying (not singing) the words to the jingle into a police radio, as if he were calling in a crime description.
