Thought I'd start this string. Allar having a good a pretty good night.
Actually no, he MET expectations. He had to EXCEED expectations every single time he took the field under Franklin, Yurcich, Kotelnicki and O'Brien. 3 weeks. That's how long it took an actual real staff to fix what that idiot broke in 4 years.Greatly exceeded expectations.

Considering all of the first round busts since the late 2010s, like the linebacker from Michigan, the receiver from ND, Jones, and probably even Najeh Harris although at least he was serviceable, it’s amazing that Tomlin never had any losing seasons and actually made the playoffs in most of those seasons.Cowboys get: Broderick Jones and a 4th
Steelers get: 3rd & 6th round picks
Glad he's gone but what a disaster for Kahn

True although a lot of those were "Tomlin picks"Considering all of the first round busts since the late 2010s, like the linebacker from Michigan, the receiver from ND, Jones, and probably even Najeh Harris although at least he was serviceable, it’s amazing that Tomlin never had any losing seasons and actually made the playoffs in most of those seasons.
I like how that article talks about Dallas beefing up their o-line with Jones. Whoever wrote that article must never have seen him play; he’s a borderline NFL player, and probably a backup at best. Here’s the link

Steelers trade Broderick Jones to Cowboys: Pick compensation, trade grades
The Cowboys just beefed up their offensive line by trading for Steelers tackle Broderick Jones.www.cbssports.com
Yeah, and that’s why it was way past time that he left; like Franklin, his tenure with the Steelers was way past its expiration date.True although a lot of those were "Tomlin picks"
Yupp--they're not bad coaches--it was just time for a change for everyone involvedYeah, and that’s why it was way past time that he left; like Franklin, his tenure with the Steelers was way past its expiration date.
They got draft picks for someone that might have been cut so they did get somethingSo we only really move up a round for 2027? Not a great trade. 6th round pick as well but cmon. We got nothing really in return for “strengthening their line”![]()
I forgot about maybe the biggest first round bust this decade: Kenny Pickett. I heard this morning that not one number choice from 2018 to 2023 is now still in the Steelers.Considering all of the first round busts since the late 2010s, like the linebacker from Michigan, the receiver from ND, Jones, and probably even Najeh Harris although at least he was serviceable, it’s amazing that Tomlin never had any losing seasons and actually made the playoffs in most of those seasons.
Yeah, it's a huge turnaround considering the Steelers were once one of the best (if not the best) at not missing on first round picksI forgot about maybe the biggest first round bust this decade: Kenny Pickett. He was put in a position by the vacuous owner for which he was not qualified; he’s a bean counter and not a football guy.Kahn, like Tomlin, is a bum.
Could be.Probably another inane decision.
Mason and Aaron are gone after this yearCould be.
If they have a typical Steeler season, and thus be in no position to draft a Manning or somebody close to him, it wouldn’t surprise me if they try to sign Mayfield as a free agent.Mason and Aaron are gone after this year
Drew and Will get to battle with a rookie next year
It's not like we're cutting people that are going to be missed
Can always cut Howard later if necessary...or maybe they're hoping to trade Mason if a starter goes down
Maybe and if he has a good season this year that would be a good pickup. If they have a typical Steeler season, and thus be in no position to draft a Manning or somebody close to him, it wouldn’t surprise me if they try to sign Mayfield as a free agent.
I don't see that happening but they done even less intelligent thingsIf they have a typical Steeler season, and thus be in no position to draft a Manning or somebody close to him, it wouldn’t surprise me if they try to sign Mayfield as a free agent.
Allar was a day 3 pick--he's a developmental QB that if he becomes a backup you won big. If he reaches the potential he has (few have his arm and he makes throws almost no one can) then you hit the jackpot like BradyMaybe and if he has a good season this year that would be a good pickup.
That makes me think about why did they draft Allar? I posted this in other threads; what is their long term strategy for the QB position? Isn't having a clear vision and plan for the QB position a key responsibility of the GM but also the HC and even owner?
I don't think Allar will ever become a bonafide starter in the NFL. He may not even be a career backup guy. The Stillers need a franchise type guy who can lead them deep into the playoffs and to the SB and win the SB.
They already have Howard. He is not significantly better than Howard at this point. I guess they are hoping and praying he gets better and is the starter? The pick was a waste in my mind. Get franchise QB after Roger's hangs it up. They should rebuild so they end up with a top 10 QB pick but they refuse to do that so we are stuck in this doom loop of mediocrity staring at either Allar or Howard as the starter. If they go get a Mayfield or some high profile FA at the end of this season then why in the world did we get Allar? These career backup guys are a dime a dozen. There had to be a more strategic pick in that third round than Allar.Allar was a day 3 pick--he's a developmental QB that if he becomes a backup you won big. Also, does any team that didn't have a top 10 pick at QB really have a plan? I don't know how you think they just get that guy.
Like they've been successful with 3rd round picks under KahnThey already have Howard. He is not significantly better than Howard at this point. Not saying they were going to hit the jackpot with a different 3rd round pick but picking Allar was just dumb. Kenny Pickett type pick all over again.Like they've been successful with 3rd round picks under Kahn

He has significantly more upside than Howard. Howard didn't get a chance to show anything last year. Allar was a low risk gamble where they selected him. It's not like they're killing it with their other picks righ now. They already have Howard. He is not significantly better than Howard at this point.
