Did you know the demographics of the 2 Northeast Region opponents Connecticut and New York last night?

Port Washington, NY as a population diversity of 72.6 % white, 15.4% Asian, 4 % other and 1.6% black. Median income is $176,000+ and average home values are around $850,000.

Devien, Connecticut, population diversity is 74%, 15% Asian, 4+% other, 1.6% black. Median income is $250,000 + and average home values are $1.2 million.

The price of Little League winning is going up!!!!

Most of the teams you see in Regionals and at the LLWS are full of select baseball kids who do both. You can typically research these kids at PerfectGame.Org utilizing the search bar and find out exactly how much ball they are playing. Some states, like Oklahoma, use USSSA tournaments a lot more (you can search there also, but it's less detailed than PG).

Precisely zero of the kids at the Regionals and LLWS play ONLY Little League baseball.

I coach in both Little League and select. I am on the board of our local LL here. Summer of 2025, I coached an all star team that played in the Texas East Sectional tournament. We breezed through districts here in the North Houston area, as most of the select kids don't care much about Little League. But I had a team full of Little League only kids, too. And we played a full select team in Sectionals who had played more than 90 games together over the previous 12 months. My little league guys had played about 30 games over that same time frame. And the exact all-star team I was coaching was on game #4 together. That game went about as you would expect (23-0).

Not specific to LL, just talking youth ball in general - but that's one reason baseball popularity has gone down, as compared to other sports. Less fans are being created each year because of the exclusiveness of youth ball - period. That's the sole reason that the MLB has taken an interest in youth ball and started trying to intervene with all this 'development' and yada yada.....they see the issue - which is less eyeballs on the sport long term. And I hate that.

That said, there will always be a minimum amount of MLB interest, as the best players in the world are still there. The best players are often subsidized through the expensive youth system.

You want to 'develop'? Go lift weights. Go practice like the Dominicans, with a ton of extra motion. But that's separate from the real issue. Dave Holt is advocating for this all over America, doing these scrimmage and constant motion leagues that aren't expensive. But he's not making a dent because the parents love the travel ball model and the corporate side is more than happy to provide that. And as long as it does, a large portion of kids will continue to bow out of baseball each year.

And honestly, the travel model does provide better baseball players overall and gives the opportunity for a ton of good competition reps to go along with any other strength/athletic type practicing you want to do. But it has a cost, in time and money.

I’ve seen a good many complaints this year about the little league field dimensions and how they should change them to reflect what these kids usually play on. Little league mound is 46 feet which is 9/10 year old for tournament baseball compared to the 50 feet they normally play on for 11/12U. Same for the bases, 60 vs 70 feet. At least they moved the fence back to 225 instead of 200. I get the fact they aren’t using the USSSA bats but aren’t most of the kids playing the LLWS > 12 years old by now?

Yes. It’s pretty rare to see an 11yo at the LLWS. It’s almost always 12yo and almost always kids who will turn 13 in a few months.
The 70mph+ velo at 46’ is very very very tough to hit.

I'm laughing at these calm, encouraging pep talks from the coaches. That's the way it should be.

But I can remember at 12 yo letting a grounder get between my legs. Coach yelled for everyone to hear, "get your butt down. You'll get pneumonia in the butt hole." Nothing nice was said in those days.

I bet your mom didn’t come to the dugout to ask the coach to be nice because you were probably very upset
