Things look pretty good on the defensive side. With DeJean, Nwankpa, and Castro. Campbell will be hard to replace, but somebody else will step in. Offensively, I liked what I saw in Labas....his scrambling ability. Now McNamara will be coming in. KJ looks like an excellent running back. The only problem I see....is the OL. If the OL can improve, I think the Hawks will be very good next year. Go Hawks!

I think so, too just from the fact the QB position promises to be much, much better!

What bothers me the most about the ol is there was no improvement from Sept. to now. That's not easy to do.
I don't know, I didn't really see where the ol totally let rushers come in untouched like they missed an assignment. But what was concerning is the fact that they got completely manhandled many times and pushed back off the line 3 to 4 yards way to many times. The line definitely needs to get tougher and get an attitude, and better hand, foot work.

WR, O-Line and LB from the portal and I think we are back to the B1G title game with at least 10 wins overall. Goooo Hawks!

Is S&C an issue these days with the OL or team at large? Just looking for observations from folks paying specific attention to this. In effect, are we weaker than we was under Doyle?

It's hard to see the defense being as good as they were this year. Tough to replace the play and heart of Campbell, Merriweather, and Moss. As others have stated, I don't see the offense being better if the O line doesn't get overhauled. Except for the two late runs by Patterson, the RB's could barely take the handoff before being hit in the backfield. Kentucky's defense is salty but that was pathetic and pass blocking wasn't any better.

That would make sense if the d and d line dropped off...but definitely didn't see that.

No. Our oline sucks...it's the same 5 guys. 10lbs of muscle will not help this group. This is the worst group oline across the board I can remember since 2000.

Here's hoping. The last few years of OL play is mystifying to me since Ferentz always prioritized that in his early years. How I wish we had the likes of Freddy Russell's O-Line again.

I think we could take a slight step back on defense. It's not just Campbell we lose. Moss and Benson are gone, Van Ness is likely gone....those would be 4 big losses and that doesn't include not getting Jacobs back. We have some depth so it's not like I think we'll fall off the map but to expect this to be a top 5 D again next year is going to be difficult. Time for the O to step up and actually play complimentary football. You're right, OL has to take a big step forward. Need two OL in the portal and at least one more WR

The OL started to decline during Doyle's tenure. We haven't had a really good OL for quite a while. We've had great individual lineman but as a whole unit, been a bit

Agree. Are we still being “patient“ as directed by some posters or has the OL / portal opportunity basically sailed by?

I was disappointed with the lack of improvement the OL showed in the bowl game. Somehow, someway the unit has to be significantly better for us to have a better offense in 2023.

Who was on that 2000 OL? And how many were still around on that dominant 2002 OL?

Hoping we get some help in the transfer portal and some of the line this year show improvement next season.

I agree with this. 12 games and still making the same mistakes and whiffs from SDSU to Kentucky?
Is Davidikov gone forever? Jack Plumb was awful as a 5th year senior. I have never seen an Iowa O lineman regress so badly
