NU will have 16 Seniors in 2018
Will have to add Vedral

So just 15 schollys available- 18 allowed with the 3 BIG allows to oversign

NU has to get 4 kids to drop between now and the Fall to get to 85

Will be interesting to see how many kids drop between now and the Fall and then the after the 2018 season

18 is the for sure bottom class size
Could see a 21-23 sized class- Frost wants to turn this roster over as quickly as he can

With the walk ons he's adding- by 2019 NU should have about 75 of his then 145 kid roster- being kids who never played for Riley

Looks like a fairly typical size class.

I think it will be interesting to see the numbers of Nebraska kids getting scholarships under Frost vs his predecessors. I suspect the numbers won’t be much different and he will be criticized for it. But he needs to get the very best players and that means mining the big states for most of the roster.

As for walk-ons I know that some people believe there hasn’t been enough emphasis placed on them. It will be even more interesting to see if those numbers change significantly.

From my limited knowledge, I think we most need to step up our permanent recruiting efforts at community colleges — and was pleased to see efforts made in this most recent class. Lots of people make fun of Snyder for his community college recruiting, but maybe we need to rethink that attitude. Just like KSU, we have to dig deeper for talent than schools like OSU that are located in large population centers.

NU already has 3 in state commits for the 2019 class and has offers out to 2 more
That is a far cry from Riley and Bos slow playing approach and low offer rates to in-state kids

As to walk ons- the QUALITY of this walk on class is better than in years past. Expect the numbers and quality continue to rise

Frost says they are going to aggressively recruit locally- unlike the last gang, I think you can take these guys at their word- when they say they are going to do something- they do it AND fast

Agree with you on JUCO recruiting. KState does a great job with it- so should we. VERY encouraged with the close ratio NU got on the kids who actually visited campus. This group doesnt just have kids visit to vacation- they tee it up and have the decision criteria and decision proccess locked in with the prospect- no games and "hype" recruiting allowed.

It should be interesting to see how all of this plays out. The key to maintaining a great walk-on program is to actually give out scholarships to guys that make it. We still have walk-ons in the NFL. Wisconsin has many more. So I think it makes sense to leave aside a couple each year for guys if they prove themselves. And I think that is what Frost plans to do.

Yes, we need to find talent wherever it is located. And if that means juco transfers then so be it. Same for walk ons.
All that said... we need to focus on the blue chip high school guys to go toe to toe with Bama and OSU.
Bill Snyder has been great for KSU, considering where they were when he arrived. But seriously, it is not like he took them to elite status, which is what we aspire to return to. In all his years at KSU how many conference titles does he have? 2??

2019 probably has the most in-state talent than we've seen in a while. Getting those 2 Burke kids are going to be huge!

True
However NU has a LOT more money, facilities and history than KSU
The point was- there are some "guerrilla tactics" that can get us a few good kids- where we dont have to compete with the Bamas, Georgias of the world for
I agree with you- go after the good talent that fits too
Bama selects- doesnt recruit that much these days. OSU we can get a few there.

That is true- however riley whiffed on Williams from Lincoln this year and Fant the year before
Bo whiffed on Harrison Phillips, Bazata and others

Combination of poor evaluations, poor recruiting and in some instances slow playing

As to the Burke kids- neither are tied here deeply- tough gets

Did Williams have deep ties here? Also, how much does he bench?

Yep, I think this year was a bit better than average for Div 1 quality recruits, although it looks like the two highest rated could go elsewhere. Too bad neither one of them seems to have Husker roots but having their family 50 miles from 7 games each year would have to be a big plus in NU’s favor.

Have to drop the four by the fall of 2019 you mean?

I'm not concerned about them clearing that number. You could probably count on a guy or two having to hang them up due to injuries alone by that time. I'll be very surprised if Bryant is still on the roster after the fall. Feel really bad for him, I really liked his potential.

The Frost quote on Bryant that I saw sure sounded like a diplomatic statement from a guy who knows the kid is done.

Why do you think Lindsey is going to be gone. The kid will kill it in this offense. I haven't seen anything stating recently that he is going to move on. Did I miss something? He did put this out in Jan but that is the only thing that could maybe we taken as a negative. Hope he stays.

4 by fall of 2018
We have 89 today

Then to get to a class size of 22 we would need to drop 4 more by feb 2019

85 scholarships / 5 years of possible scholarships = 17 per class. You always have several from each class that dont last the 5 for one reason or another

It's already been said that Frost is aiming for a 2019 class size of 25 so that implies a lot of attrition yet to come.

Scholarships are nice but to my thinking the most important is to treat all the players like they were highly recruited with the exact same chance to practice and play.

OSU brought in 26 players this year and 5 were from Ohio.

That assumes everyone redshirts
With the jucos and quality of players frost is bringing in DONT expect s bunch of redshirts

That would require at least 7 more Kids to drop in year 2
That would be huge, interesting
And yes I do recall frost saying somewhere that he would like to get to 25 in year 2
That’s going to require a bunch of attrition
Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing
Get on board or get out of the way

If it’s that big a number that’s an absolute indictment on how soft the culture was under smilin mike
