The big thing is scholarship offers.

In this day and age, you have to be rich to afford to walk-on and pay full tuition.

Now if a kid gets an academic scholarship of something like that and walked on, I can understand, but if the kid is expected to walk-on and pay full tuitition, then that's different.

Was Hollingsworth offered a full scholarship or told he could walk-on?

That is the big question for me. Does anyone know for sure?

I don't think Cal has offered a scholarship to a Kentucky kid and them not take it.

There are a couple of posters on here right now saying it, ask them?

Of course, kids have egos. It's hard to be told to wait on an offer that might or might not come.

If the spot is available I'd like to see KY Mr Basketball have an offer every year. Or at minimum a preferred walkon spot with a chance to earn one if it opens up.

The year that we had those 2 random kids that Cal knew their families from PA and NJ was dumb. If you're going to throw away roster spots you might as well give it to the KY kid who is a Georgetown-WKU level talent but might pass on that scholarship for a chance to be part of this program.

That one kid was something like 5'11-145lbs and averaged 3 points a game in HS. There were boat loads of better athletes and players playing pickup in the Johnson Center that had dreamed of playing for KY their entire life
They were walk ons.

I don't think anybody with an ounce of talent is coming here to sit on the bench and watch the game for four years. We have seen in the past two years, the top Kentucky players do not want to sit behind talented basketball players every year and I don't blame them. I think you overestimate players with talent, they won't come to sit.

Hard to disagree with you as I understand and respect your opinion. If an in-state kid plays for the big Blue as a walk on or scholarship he sets himself up for a pipeline of opportunities after Basketball. It's a chance for a homegrown player to make good after school. Perhaps a chance to play on an very high caliber team. Memories no one can take away!

I agree with everything you said, but I still believe there are more Hollingsworths then Polsons out there, who has talent and are not willing to sit and wait his time. Remember this with Polson, he walked on, but got a scholarship every year that he was there and was a valuable asset.

Polson was valuable strictly out of Cal dropping the ball and not having an adequate roster. No disrespect to Jared but he was not UK scholarship level worthy at all. Hollingsworth is.

I thought this thread was about Tavin Lovan. What the hell happened? Bet that ADHD is going on again.
