Clearly we’ve had two years of substandard QB play. Who do you see taking over at QB next year?

Gio
J Lewis
Sitkowski
Chapman
T Flacco

I’m not sold on Lewis. Either you have accuracy or you don’t. He just doesn’t. It would take a full year or two working with a QB coach on a practice field to fix. Lewis has a lot of work to do.

Gio is a 2nd string QB.

Chatman looks like he is on the short side.

Flacco could be a sleeper.

Sitkowski is the most talented thrower the day he steps on campus. He probably needs a ton of film work to read coverages, particularly man, which is what kids struggle with at the next level. He does have a weird follow through on his passes. Almost like a pitcher.

Rutgers needs a QB coach, bigly. It will probably be someone that Kill knows well so look for that connection.

Does Gio return for his 5th year? Or maybe take his talents elsewhere? RU needs to move on from him like they did with Laviano.

Chapman is enrolling early, and so is S., that battle will begin then. Don't see Lewis as the answer, but I do believe Chapman will be starting by game 4 of next year. Like him over Sitkowski. The kid is smart, good arm, has a run a form of this offense(with more passing), and great leadership. Game 4

I honestly don't care who it is , I just want to hear in spring that "Quarterback {X} has really looked great".

We need someone to be THE man.

(btw it's ChaTman)

Yup. You could read the tea leaves in the spring and then again in the summer that the coaching staff didn't feel like they had the right answer. They talked up Bolin's leadership and intangibles but it wasn't like he walked through the door and grabbed the job right away.

- agree Gio should/could be a solid 2nd string guy

- "on the short side"? Not sure what that has to do with being a good QB or not. We've had guys 6'5" who couldn't do a damn thing back there.

- I know Flacco threw for a ton of yards but isn't Gio's high school in one of the 3 or 4 best conferences in the entire nation? Might be a little bit of a difficult comparison to make, no? I'm not saying he isn't, or can't be better, don't get me wrong.

I agree with you NUTS ...the height issue is a misnomer here ... Chatman if he signs could be very similar to guys like Flutie, Brees, and McSorley...not bad company... Artur Sitkowski is proto type and what everyone seems to think a QB has to be... our B1Gest issue is our O-line...I'm still hoping Cole returns and Clark can play next to him at guard...Jonah Jackson at the Center spot and from there its maybe Vretman , Krimmins , Seymour ( who I still see as a D guy)...Maietti...and just maybe a surprise ...the right side is a problem... Applefield needs to make a jump and if he could we may have something... agree on Gio...Lewis is a talented and athletic man but his arm positioning and release is waaaay to high ... needs a QB coach ? ...not sure you can easily correct that and touch....a cannon is good but if you can't adjust you're Sh___t out of luck...glad Ash got the extension...Hobbs is a good A.D.

Don’t sleep on Chatman. He played in a highly competitive league and made plays. He may surprise call.

Btw, Drew Brees and Russel Wilson are short. Johnny Manziel is short. Forget the height and focus on who makes the plays.

will be interesting to follow the process of working through what is desired - vs - what is needed
There is a lot of desire to have a magnificent stellar beautiful QB - but the program may not be ready to be able to win with that - it may be that where the team is now & next year, the most wins might be obtained with a scrappy wily nimble & elusive win-ugly QB - and some will cheer for that - but there could be a debate as to whether that would really be in the best interest of the program - there may be a line of reasoning that going with an improvisational Tasmanian devil at QB with the rest of the offense scrambling to keep up as all hell breaks loose on every play - may be fun to watch - but would not advance the genuine development of the offensive squad....
Given the long term goals of Ask & Kill - expect to see the QB who is most likely to be best able to lead the collective development of the offense as a cohesive unit that operates as a synchronized machine ...

Sitkowski is barely playing right now so I don't think its reasonable to expect him to start. Chatman probably has a better chance and I like him enrolling early. I think it'll be Lewis or Gio or even another grad transfer. People are nuts for writing Lewis off already

I can see Gio leaving as a grad transfer if he is not named starter in Spring. Based on past experience I see at least 1 more QB leaving too.

If Flacco had a different last name would he even be mentioned in these threads?
Yes. Kill has repeatedly brought him up despite not being asked about him. He's played college ball already and had some success at WMU. To be honest, I don't know much about him.

It's gonna be Chatman. Watching his film- you can see he knows what he is doing. He knows where to go with the ball, what type of the throw to make, and he knows when to pull the ball down and run. Others may have more raw pyhsical talent- but he's gonna be our best quarterback

It's good that Chatman and Sitkowski are enrolling early, because they need all the snaps they can get prior to the fall.

Just to restate the options with some more info:
Rescigno - 6-3,224; dual; RS Sr, 16 games
Flacco - 6-1, 185; dual; RS Jr, 13 games (at WMU)
Lewis - 6-3, 240; dual; So, 7 games
Sitkowski - 6-5, 205; pro; Fr
Chatman - 6-1, 180; dual; Fr

All are listed as dual threat QBs except Sitkowski.

Drew Brees and Russell Wilson disagree. Chatman is taller than both.

The only reason in my book is because Kill praised him and his competitiveness during the season. So he will have a shot. Plus he actually has playing experience on the college level. That being said, I would be shocked if he finished in the top 3.

Initially thought Lewis was the man but his accuracy is actually worse than Bolin’s is....hard to believe it.
Hopefully Sitkowski has the QB skill set to make passes get somewhere close to the Receivers.
Might need Gio as the QB for games 1-3 and then Sitkowski takes over.

I actually was ready to write Lewis off until I saw some things from him last game. He has very strange Mechanics and he's incredibly Raw..... But there's something about his personality and his athleticism and his quick release that gives me hope with a lot of that quarterback coaching... I mean the seven days a week 24 hours a day quarterback coaching.

That Chatman run looks very familiar to our playbook except for the TD part.
Deep penetration to mess up the handoff and than confusion, followed by a loss of yardage. Chapman can make things happen.

I've seen enough. Not sure who it will be but the competition Lewis should be in is the TE competition. He is the leader for that right now.

I’m just a dumb bando but jeez, everyone couldn’t wait for Lewis to get in there and he did get som time. And based on that small sampling some aren’t sold. Sold on what? His development was slowed by injury. Ok, so he gets a chance against the #16 team and doesn’t produce. Or even against Ohio State before getting hurt. So now he’s washed up to some here.

Rough crowd.

I think a lot had to do with our play calling, not necessarily his skills.

I imagine a lot depends on how the line plays. Even Brady gets shut down with a strong rush up the middle

Either you can make a 10 Yard simple swing pass or you can’t. No hiding this inaccuracy.

I don't care who the QB will be. I only hope that, whoever it is, we get a ****-ton more production from him than we got from our QBs this or last season.

But as always, the QB is only part of the equation. We also need the OL and WRs to improve quite a bit. A really good OL and really good WRs can make an otherwise average QB look really good.
