The 2011 Bama D was pretty nasty. I think they only gave up 8 points per game. That’s unreal in today’s college football.
People should also consider avg starting field position and short yardage TD drives. For example, LSU had a 2 yard drive and KST had a 15 that should have ended in a turnover. The offense sure didn't help through the first 6 or 7 games either on field position .

Why are total yards used as the reference for best offense and defense and not points? It's been this way forever (forever = as long as a 39 y/o can remember). But shouldn't points be the measure? That's what determines who wins the game. Always been a pet peeve
