With Laviano and Rettig leaving who do you predict will be our QB starter next year?

most likely the same guy that finished last year, Gio. Neither of those 2 would have played so not the end of the world.

There are really only 2 choices, aren't thereally? It's Gio or Lewis. I think Gio may start game 1, but Lewis will start the majority of the games.

If Gio is healthy (has no lingering effects of the injury) ... gets a bit of protection and can get a flow going in the offense - get the rhythm going - so that opposing defenses are being genuinely tested & beaten - then Gio keeps taking the field.

If the offense can't help Gio at all & Gio is simply serving as a crash test dummy until the offense can step it up to the point where the QB position becomes safer to occupy - then sadly for Gio - he is going to be absorbing a lot of punishment for as long as he can take it. Ash is not going to jump to sacrificially put Lewis into a giant meat-grinder unless he absolutely has to.

Only way that Gio comes out early for Lewis is if Gio is stinking the place out - or gets knocked out

Gio will start, but Lewis will get a lot of PT and probably be the full starter by season's end. Unlike other freshmen QBs in the past like Odin, Lewis is physically already there.

Gio. Not sure why people are hoping Lewis takes over. If he does it's more likely because we suck and not because he is lights out as a freshman. Not to mention, prior to getting hurt Gio looked more than capable against Minnesota. If the mods are correct he will have many more weapons at his disposal.

Gio will start against Washington, but then depending on his performance it's anyone's guess who starts the next game. Also let's not write-off Oden completely. If he has successfully added weight and been coached up to be a better passer he may be in play for significant minutes as well.

Realistically, Gio should be the starter. He has the most experience, and when healthy, was able to move the offense better than anyone last year. With Gio starting, that gives the backups time to get some reps in practice. If Gio does not manage the game well (I.e. doesn't move the offense or turns the ball over too much) or gets injured, it's the next man up.

The weekly starting QB thread lol!

Gio and that's what everyone should want, IMHO, to start the season.

I think Gio's injury is a little overrated by people on this board. He injured his hamstring not his arm. And toward the end of the season, he didn't look that injured. He just seemed to regress. Although I think his injury played a part in it, I don't think that's the sole reason he was ineffective. When Gio is on his game, he kind of reminds me of a poor man's Tim Tebow.

Feeling ornery this Monday; going with Oden as the out of the box pick. A year's seasoning in college + Kill = kid is ready to take the reins until Lewis is ready (or Oden gets dinged), say midseason.

If a healthy Gio isn't the starter, game one, then that bodes well for RU as it will mean that Lewis is the real deal. For Lewis to start the first game he will have to be head and shoulders above the rest, if not then you go with experience.

Oden showed 0 signs he is ready to play at this level. 1 year is not going to help all that much. If Oden is starting we are in a lot of trouble.

what the fk did some of you watch last year? How anyone could think it's not going to be Gio is beyond me.

Seriously, though, will probably be Gio to start. In some way, I hope Gio does well enough to secure the job so that we can redshirt Jonathan Lewis. Will be interesting to see to what extent we use Oden, Grant and Duwop in wild knight type packages. Hoping also, Oden gets more work in on passing and has more than 8 passing attempts, if Lewis is redshirted.

LOL have you EVER injured a hamstring? I have, and it ******* sucks, trust me! Okay, now let me ask you this: have you EVER injured a hamstring and attempted to play QB in an offense that required the QB to move out of the pocket, throw on the run, and/or run with that ball? Okay, now let me ask you this: did you know he got a 2nd INJURY, against MSU, and played with that as well?

Awful post.

Gio was close to 100% the last few games and did not look great. Better than Laviano, but not great. I think people are hoping Lewis takes over because we kinda know what we got with Gio. If he can play consistently like he did against Minn, that's another story.

I'd expect Gio to play all of the Washington game, no matter what, unless he is injured.

I could easily see:
Washington - Gio plays whole game.
E.Michigan - Gio starts, and Lewis comes in during the 4th quarter
Morgan State - Gio starts, and Lewis comes in during the 3rd quarter (or starts the second half)

Beyond that is looking way too far ahead. If Gio is moving the ball and healthy, I'd expect Lewis to be the "4th quarter" QB for most of the year. If Gio struggles or is injured, that could change.

Any time after the bye week, I could see Lewis potentially taking over as starter if Gio struggles or Lewis really is dominant.

You could tell he couldn't run on his hammy

The mods, coaches and I think Gio has said this.
Not disputing/arguing, but there is this:

http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/i..._gio_rescigno_entering_offseason_you_hav.html

"Rescigno, who played through a hamstring strain suffered in his first start, also appeared to hurt his left shoulder in the fourth quarter of the season finale.

"My body's never felt this way before," Rescigno said before facing Maryland. "I think after the season you need a couple weeks to calm down a little and get your body back to 100 percent. My hamstring will probably need that little rest, whatever it is.
"I'll get to go home a little and get my body recovered and ready for workouts so hopefully I can come back 100 percent healthy and get faster, stronger in all those areas."

http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/i...rutgers_vs_maryland_something_has_to_giv.html

Quarterback Gio Rescigno's injured hamstring makes him less effective as a scrambler and thus forces him to drop back and see if the offensive line can withstand a rush.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...or-bowl-bid-lies-in-beating-rutgers/94426980/
GROWING PAINS: Rutgers quarterback Giovanni Rescigno has struggled recently, in part because of hamstring and knee injuries.

Awful post.

I don't always agree with Nuts, but when I do...........

And to add to Nuts comment. I have injured both hamstrings(different times) while playing baseball. And after a week or two off, wrapped it as tight as possible and played on it. There were many things I could do or appear to be doing without much problem but I was 60% at best.
Anyone that actually watched our football games could see there was a reason he didn't run all that often after his injury when it would have helped us tremendously.

And even if a coach or player were to say that it was not going to be an issue, I hope you realize it is because the coach wants the other team to have spend time to prepare for it.
